The Word Witch

I bet this has been discussed before but I want to put out my view so please forgive me this is said with all due respect.

I was told the other day that the connotation of the word Witch is a disgrace to the Pagan/Wiccan community and that with its negative connotation it should never be used to associate our community.

I am quite proud to be called a witch and my reason is because when I was little my mother would call me her little witch used in banter and through that I always saw myself as a witch and although I know my mother would prefer it that I would have taken it as a joke rather than an endearment it became more of a compliment to me than anything else and the fact that people misunderstand the mere word shows their ignorance.

The reason why I think this is because I mean what else did people call those that practiced magic it can't be all so harmful can it? Please comment but please don't be rude to one another I don't want ya'll getting angry its just a thought that I had. *hugz to all*

Personally I like the word and claim it as a label of my beliefs. There are as many different kinds of witches as there are people. I would tell people that don't like the word not to use it, and at the same time leave me be to call myself whatever I want.
