it has only been about a year since i felt called to the pagan faith. and the more i understand about myself and the divine, the more i realize how much i need to learn. i would love feedback on resources to develop my practice or maybe some rituals or celebrations that anyone found useful.
a blessing to you all
The more you know, the more you'll feel like you don't now. There are literally a ton of resources out there and you have to follow your instincts. There is no ONE way, no right way...there are many ways, you take what resonates, what feels right, what ultimately works, and go with it. Good thing you're HERE though. The people at Pagan Space can be a real blessing. They'll keep you on your toes and tell it like it is!
Christopher Penczak's (Sons of the Goddess) and Scott Cunningham's (Wicca A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner) These two books are wonderful and their are many books by both authors. If you want a list of great books ask me I am an avid student of the faith.
Listen to everything, but use your common sense. You're going to hear things that sound impossible - they are. Be a scholar, study it all with discernment and discrimination. Know that all things are possible, but some things are ridiculous.
I recommend "Walkers Between the Worlds" by Caitlin and John Matthews for a good point of reference to start. This book brings together the ancestral and the transcendent, and is a center from which you can expand to wherever your path might lead.
Oak, Ash and Thorn was what really took my shamanism from a hobby to a calling. i found so many great ideas in it that i was wondering if it might be too good to be true.
thanks for the tips
Hello Greg,
Welcome to the Path! I think that there is SO much information out there, that it's easy to become overwhelmed. If you are looking for great, easy-to-read and practical information, Scott Cunningham's the best for beginners. He makes things very simple, and he reads fast!
Also, you're going to hear a lot of things about "you need this tool, you need that tool." That's not always the case. Tools are merely that, tools, and many can be crafted by you from things you find around you! Try not to get caught in all the hoopla of the "buying catch." For example, when I first started, I thought I was going to need everything! I bought the athame, I got a wand, etc. I don't use any of that stuff! I also learned that my path was not Wiccan, but a culmination of many different ideals all melted together (I coined the phrase hybrid-pagan)
Also, you'll get to the point where you will just feel things instinctively and go with your own methods. All books are someone else's viewpoint on what Paganism should be... it doesn't always work for you, and you'll find that most magick comes from your own inner understanding and connection to the Gods.
If you want to talk, or share information with a local, just shoot me off an email or a message on here!

Many blessings, for your new found Paganism!
