I refer to anything not in the physical realm as either entities or othersiders. (probably the most general terms one could use for all the non-living...)

I would like to get a collection of terms used to describe othersiders or groups of othersiders. As well as a brief description of what they do (how they communicate, if they physically do things; what things?) As well as, how they are commonly known.

What religion/spiritual path do you typically find these beings?

Pick one, or pick many, compare one commonly mistaken for another....

Lets educate one another ;)

Angels: messengers of God. Some will accredit angels to be spirit guides.

Typically they communicate in a 'telepathic' sense. It has been reported that they will take physical form of a human to help. They try to 'make things right' or to emotionally heal people (/animals)

Primarily based in Abrahamic faiths

Mazoku/Asura: Spiritual beings who range from low to high power. (Asura = demon, Mazoku = demon race or evil race.) Low being similar to evil spirits. High being the anti-thesises of gods. They were born from the primordial chaos just as the gods and the minor divinities were. (Like gods they are not human. Minor divinities are races and sub-divisions of the gods such as angels.) They are the opposites, they do not thrive on good emotions as gods do, they thrive on negative emotions and ensuring human suffering. Feeding on dark aspects of the human psyche. They have a connection to the astral realm and their ultimate goal is to destroy everything in order to return it all to chaos. They are also sources of what I call black magic in my classifications.

Anthromorphs: Spirits who never had bodies and reside in the other world. They are a mix of human and animal parts, some of the earliest spirits. Their natures can be benevolent or malevolent.

Evil spirits: Some anthromorphic spirits fall under this. But mostly I consider them to be the spirits of people that had died and continue to haunt the world of the living in some way. (Such as a person, place, or thing.) Ghosts fall under this but do not have to be malevolent in nature in their own category.

Monster: A being from the psyche, in the otherworld usually. A manifestation from a person or persons. Tends to be around when other nasty things are such as mazoku who can be the source of it when they're haunting a human.

Minor or lesser demon: Malevolent beings that are not mazoku, not totally against humans. They usually are from gods and have a justification for their actions even if they have disobeyed and rebelled from such deities. These demons would be something such as Azazel.

Magic users: people encountered in the other world, often times, people you don't know who are alive and are fellow magic users. They can be good or bad to you.

Thought form: Something that comes from yourself or another person or people as a group that is based on thoughts and wholly into it's own thing. It's common in dreams but usually disappears when a person wakes up from their mundane or purely psychological dreams.

That's a small list based in part on my experiences.

Minor or lesser demon makes me think of a fallen angel...

Thought form would be called an egrogore...

Yes, thought forms also go by tulpas.

Yeah that's why I usually have minor demons including fallen angels in it.

What are shadow people then? I've experienced two kinds one type is somewhat intelligent and the other is just similar to a thought form. It seems like they both have the same purpose though and thats to drain energy from the living.

You seem kind of stuck on spirits draining energy from you.

Some see shadow people simply as ghosts and some even as guardians.I would say the whole perception is subjective to the person.

How about Devas: pantheons of gods and goddesses like the ancient Greek gods, Norse gods and Egyptian gods. Human beings pray to them, communicate with them telepathically and see them in visions. Usually they are benevolent toward human beings and help them. There are many myths about their tempestuous emotional natures and how they fight among themselves,  fight with human beings and have children with human beings. I would say it's true that Devas are very emotional.

Also nature spirits and fae, which I  see as junior Devas. They are supposed to trick human beings a great deal and sometimes help them, and also move objects. Most people find them hard to see or hear ; some are gifted tht way and can communicate with them.

@Tara I explained under the asura-mazoku thing.

maybe the further classification by name can be related back to your explaination....?

This is what I was wanting: Any and all names of any and all entities. What they do, how they are classified and which tradition calls them what.

Then I was looking to compare which entities are simply named different, but serve the same function....and possible differences if any between them.

would that be to say that devas and fae are asura-mazoku?

I have heard the fea referred to as Djinn...

Djinn:  Typically found in Islamic culture. Can appear in human or animal form. (shapeshifters?)

I think the many denizens of the other world are shapeshifters. Mazoku tend to take human form to catch prey, while their real form is in the astral realm. The more benevolent ones may do so because they don't want to scare a human, such as angels whom are always described as "terrifying" in appearance in their natural forms.
