I have decided to write this because for the 3rd time now I have felt sexually discriminated against by a Wal-Mart employee. Everyone knows and sees the infamous people greeter at Wal-Mart. They greet you and one of their side jobs (seemingly) is to size up potential shoplifters. My beef with Walmart is they allow these "greeters" to tell men who choose to carry messenger bags, that they have to leave them at customer service! Now Again this has happened to me not once, not twice but three times in the past 3 years. Everytime I have argued with the greeter until I notice that they let women with HUGE purses walk right on by. That is sexual discrimination and I very well let them and the store manager know. I even tried to explain to the manager and greeter(which I should not have had to do) that we were carrying a LARGE amount of money to drop off at the bank and the greeter still tried to make us put the bag away! What f-in nerve. Needless to say I told her we were going to bring it in anyway and if she wanted me to make a federal case out of it she could call the cops herself and have me escorted out but nothing happened. We banked and we left. I just wanted to let the men of pagan space know that if you choose to carry a bag, watch out for that nasty lil people greeter at Wal Mart. lol I would like to know what some of the men and women of Pagan space think I should do about this situation?

I just was thinking about "life in a bag" Like what if I wasn't making a deposit but was a diabetic or asthmatic? What if I had my medicine in that bag? I would not just give that up and possibly die just so WalMart can rest easy knowing I am not shoplifting. Or what if I was a crazy person with a gun? Why would Walmart advocate their employees to confront customers? Most retail places do not do that. They tell you to give them very "good" customer service to make them feel like you are watching them. It prevents you as an employee from getting stabbed or shot. Walmart needs to rethink some things.

I wonder if you can find a bank that you do not need to enter Wal-mart for?

The next possibility is to obtain a bank bag, brief case, or other item that they would feel less interested in asking you to check.

Finally, perhaps you can make an appointment with the manager, explain the problem, and ask him to make an exception of some sort for you; perhaps you can call ahead, and he can let the greeters know to expect you and let you through.

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. The only one thats not really feasable is the different bank thing. Mainly, because my hub is a bartender, our free time is around 4 am. This one Walmart has a 24 hour bank in it so we're sorta stuck. :( But you're right perhaps we need a bank bag.

Trust me I know about being discrimination ....im discriminated at my job because im not a female...the women get the simple and easy jobs and never ever get written up or counciled about little things. I get in "trouble" while the females at my job get "well thats ok by my boss" and yes my bosses are females. I feel if you signed up for the job you should do the same work as men just because your a female doesnt mean you should get away with anything. I got so tired of this I transfered to another department. And I have been discriminated because I am white ...I applied to work at a place I shall not name but everyone was black...even though im white and 90% of my friends are black but you cant tell by looking at me...i was told i will not get the job because im the wrong color..yep thats what the manager told me.

Yeah...I get that, too. I am a male nurse. If a woman does "X", its good nursing. If I do "X", it is abuse/sexual misconduct/sexual harassment...it doesn't matter if there is a doctor's order, or if I saved a life, or whatever.

My dad's a nurse too, but I'm not sure if he gets discriminated against or not, I'm sure he does though. He's been there so long though, that some of the doctors new to the hospital go to him for advice. He's been a nurse for just about 25 years now, give or take. He's pretty awesome.

I do know people laugh at me when I tell them what my dad does, buuuut I also tell them next time they go to the hospital, they better hope it wasn't my dad they'd have to deal with, I'll make sure of that xD.

Best advantage though: When we got hurt as a kid, my dad could patch us up without spending a small fortune going to the hospital. Plus, easier to get blood drawn or an injection from your dad then a stranger. ^_^

at Costco, we have people who check purchases at the door, and check them with the receipts. Any backpacks, or bags must also be checked, except for purses. The person checking, has on several occasions been scolded by management for checking a purse. Apparently this is an invasion of privacy - but checking someones backpack isn't.

The Hubby

P.S. My "coffin" purse doesn't get checked, but the bag I use for work does... I work at Costco as well and I have a clear bag that holds my stuff for work - that gets checked, but my huge ass purse doesn't. I totally agree that it's discrimination, if you have a bag big enough to shop lift with, I don't give a crap if it's a purse or not - check it.

Isn't it funny though, how we are supposed to be a country of equal rights? Yet people do not get treated equally tiome and time again.
