i was doing some looking into of plants, their properties, meanings, and so on, untill i stumbled across a "black rose". i dont know why, but i was instantly drawn to it, the look and color, i cant get it out of my head. its said that it has something to do with great magical purpose, but can find anything. everyone knows that giving flowers is a common gesture, a white for purity or red for love, but black has always been asociated with death, destruction and mortality. but i dont know why, but i just cant stop thinking about it, what it means, why this is so fasanating to me, and the image wont leave my head. does anyone know ANYTHING, cause its driving me insane!!! can someone help me out?

I've heard there are some cultures that consider white to be the color of sterility and death, and black to be of purity. I can't recall where I heard it from, but I'll see what I can find on the validity of it for you.

That does make sense. Thank you. I was thinking more Middle Eastern and Asian cultures. I hadn't even thought of Aboriginals.

asian cultures use white for death as well. i can't tell you why though.

I'd heard that in Japan, white was the color of servitude, blockages, low status and entrapments... (the explanation was that white silk was cheaper to make because it lacked expensive dyes and was therefore given to the slaves to wear instead of vibrant colors... it was plain and ugly to them.)
That was one of the reasons my wedding dress was distinctly not white, lol! (I went with lucky red.. you know, a shade lighter than crimson... starts with an "s")

Yes, in Asia white is the color of mourning, I seem to recall.
In the case of the black rose, it may be its contradictory nature that's intriguing you. To have a rose, symbol of beauty and love in such a mysterious and profound color...also, it's a "manmade" species...it does not occur in nature but was created. That being said, there IS an elegance to it, I'll admit.
There WAS a time, if I remember correctly, that if one received a black rose it meant one was about to be assassinated. LOL! But I don't think that holds true or that such a thing is used anymore.
As we all know that death merely means a transition and not the ultimate end...a black rose may just mean a "passage" or even a progression.
Ultimately, only YOU can say what it means to you...or why you're so fascinated with it. Might be worth meditating on.

LOL! Well...I didn't want to actually use the M word...but yeah! LOL! I understand the florists in Chicago in the 30s had standing orders for them. LOL! (but that may just have been a rumor!)

Really? I had no idea there was possible basis in fact. I've just seen movies and read things (fictional) pertaining to the whole situation. Black roses as a warning, violin cases used as tommy gun tote bags, etc. LOL

a lot of fiction is based in reality thats what draws people in lol

This could be, because the Black Rose has not been developed as of yet. The darkest rose's out called Black Rose's are actually dark burgundy and purple, the deepest dark color as of now.

Now as far as the color meaning, this is in my families Grimoire, there are many colors in it but I will have to get my Daughter to read it out to me to share with you.

Black: Binding and releasing; dispelling negative energies purity, Cloak of Protection.
But actually I feel it all depends on the path that one wish or does follow. This is what my family feels, other may feel differently. So you can not place a True meaning on a Plant that has not been developed, also there is no great magical purpose to the plant since it is not here yet.

If you need links about the Black Rose not developed yet, I will be happy to provide them.

Edit: here is 1 link, but you can just goggle the "Black Rose", and many sites that tell you the same.
