Maybe it's because I am a new Mom and notice all baby things more, but it seems that there has been a lot of news about breastfeeding women.  I mean there was that Times cover with the woman who was breast feeding her toddler (which I personally think is kinda creepy, but what ever floats her boat) to the Air Force Women  who offended people by nursing their babies while in uniform. One person commented that nursing in public was equivalent to urinating in public. What I can't get my mind around is why is it such a big deal that people are nursing, at home, in public, in work uniforms.

Today I was out shopping at the local mall, with my 11 week old son, for a dress to wear to a charity event for this weekend.  While I did try and time it around his eating schedule, it took me longer then I thought.  So needless to say I was stuck at the mall with a grumpy hungry infant.  I went  into Macy, as that is the only store that had a Mom/nursing room.  Well there where two chairs and they where occupied by other nursing mothers.  I did not want to make Logan wait so that he would get super grumpy and stressed out, so I found a bench and took out my nursing cape, and sat in the mall and nursed him.

As he was eating I got a few women who smiled at me, but then I had another young woman who made the comment that I should be nursing him in private. Now I can understand how it can make people uncomfortable, but I had a cover and all some one who was walking by would see his feet popping out.  The comment kinda caught me off guard.  If I where sitting there with a bottle, no comment would be made.

I personally think that I should be able to nurse my son anywhere.  I will never be a woman that feels comfortable flinging their breasts out with out some type of cover, but if you are more power to you.  The reason that woman have breasts are to nourish babies, and not just fun bags for a steamy night.

What are your thoughts?  Do you think woman should be able to nurse where ever when the baby needs to, or would you prefer that women stay at home and nurse?  Why do you think that you have these feelings?  Why do you think that something as old as man is so controversial?  Do you think that the woman in uniform have disgraced the Air Force?

I nursed my son whenever and wherever it was necessary. I never had to "fling" my breasts anywhere. It can be done discreetly without a cape or other cover. I don't understand the discomfort, and I certainly don't think it disgraces any uniform. Folks just need a real problem to focus their attention on. Small children being raped, beaten, neglected, kidnapped...those are problems worthy of public outcry. Public breastfeeding? Really? *facepalm*

I totally agree, just noticing a trend in the news and then the comment at the mall.  I have not mastered the non breast flinging part, which is why I use the nursing cape:P

When ever I go to the Peds office they always ask if I am breast feeding.  When I tell them they are always super happy and praise my decision.  To me there really was no decision to be made, that is what our breasts are for, and to me synthetic really cannot compare to the natural option.

The medical field is attempting to get as many healthy and capable women to breastfeed their babies.  It does make them healthier in the long run, but it seems that even though doctors have said that it is the best the awkward relationship society has with breast is what is keeping the number lower then it should be.

i dont get the big deal, its baby food, texas law where i live for the longest time was agianst breast feeding in public and nowdays the law is that you can breastfeed whereever you please as long as you have coverage of your breast.

its ridiculous that people are offended by it....but their not offended by a baby using a bottle...makes no sense to me. my thought baby has to eat, why complain about it? to me its no big deal, i was fascinated by my aunt as a kid who breast feed in front of me and my brothers...my dad was sickened by it like it was the plagues....

now the age of the child breast feeding...i think and this is just my opinion that if a child has teeth he should stop and eat baby food...because the thought is just creepy but like you said whatever floats her boat lol.

the only reason why i think this is because from a certain age say 5 boys start to play with themselves and are maturing sexual and to me its common sense to stop at teeth stage....

do you have kids?  Baby's get there teeth in at around 6months not 5yrs old.  Experts are now saying you should breast feed until the child is 2yrs old.  Plus new born boys play with there penises.

Studies have shown that to two is optimal.  That is what I am going for.  I think once the child can say fully structured sentences then it is time to stop lol.

VARIABLES with EVERY child

I actually had first hand experience of watching this whole breast feeding thing go from normal to taboo, in my life time.

When I was a little one, my older siblings were have babies. I have niece's and nephews that are my age to the age of my children. So in my life, there has always been babies.

When my siblings had babies, when I was very young, if someone seen you bottle feeding the first question/statement was, oh I'm so sorry, do the dr. think they can help you to feed. By the time I was a young teen it was so breast or bottle, have you decided. Young adult, yuck your going to breast feed, I'm sorry your husband doesn't have a better job so you can bottle feed. Adult, we gave you a shot so your breast will not be so sore until the milk is gone. Oh I'm sorry we didn't know anyone still breast feeds.( by the way, that was a bitch to fix). To, so do you think folks will think I'm weird, but I want to breast feed, I heard it is good for both you and the baby and it's cheaper too. To, ok I know it's the new all about nature thing, but really do you have to do that in public ( I was in my car for gods sakes). To hey Mom have you seen the new nursing stations they have, no more feeding the baby in a  public bathroom, yea!!!( my oldest daughter). To, can you believe it that woman threatened me with calling a cop, because I was feeding my son, she acted like she had never seen a boob before(second daughter, she's not the least bit shy..lol) To, you should of seen some of the people at the park when the new mom breast feeding club pulled out the feeding capes, kept the volunteers busy handing out flyers that for sure. It was great(third daughter). Youngest daughter no kids, I think it's sweet but really it's gross to in a way, maybe if you just kept in a private place, I mean they are breast, they should be kept inside a bra unless your in bed right( I had a long talk with that one, she's still not convinced it's ok, but she's only 16 and think PDF is yucky too....lol).

In conclusion, society can not make up it's mind what is right and what is natural. Humanity is so confused. What a shame.

lol so seen this stuff.

I loved flipping off people that gave me dirty looks while I breast feed.  And yell at women "What you afraid your man will see this and leave your sorry ass behind"

I'm such a bitch

You remind me of my second daughter, she was always going what, haven't you ever seen a boob before, Really at your age, that is sad or what you hungry too and give them get f**k look of her's. Like I said, she's not shy...lol.

I'm going to get flamed for this. I think it's a matter of respect. People that are out and about don't want to see some one with their baby at the breast. I'm not against breast feeding, and I do think it is beneficial for the child. But in the middle of the mall, or a restruant is not the time or place to feed your child.
