I am always hearing the idea that God is Love
Or the Meaning of Life is Unconditional Love
Or that believers in Interbeing believe we should Love everyone.
Am I alone in finding this anthropormorphic emotion as completely unrelated to having peace, being spiritual, or relating to deity?
I am in a loving relationship and have no issues with Love in and of itself, but does this not sound like some drek others use to feel 'loved' by something greater and justify the pain they experience in this world? Is it important for the Universe to Love you? Would the world have any less purpose if this was untrue?
I believe many people preach so much about love because tehy feel the deep desire to be wanted and loved as much as they can. We should not have to love everyone. The idea that "the meaning of life is unconditional love" is ridiculous to me, the meaning of life is different for each individual.. I have no problems with love, and i love many people and many things, but not all people and all things.. there are just some things i cannot stand, im not going to love them.. sorry not my deal. Most people probably use the term love to relate to a diety to make themselves feel more special then they really are. I too feel it is unrelated.
"God is Love" sounds Christian to me. "Unconditional Love" sounds Vedanta (Krishna-ites). It's the same issue as "White" witches claiming they only do "nice" spells. There is light and dark, and good and evil, and to deny one is to bring it forth more powerfully and more deviously.
the universe does not love 'us'. If it did, it wouldn't allow so many to die hungry (4,000 per hour).
The universe, nature, is indifferent. It is brutal.
Think about it, the planet eats itself alive - that is the only way it can remain alive, i.e. the food chain. Everything consumes what it can, and then gets consumed itself, and crapped onto the ground to feed flowers and bugs.
yet life continues to evolve, sustaining itself by cannibalism; amazing!
If you want peace, love, order, do not look to the 'universe'. People who think nature is 'cute' have a lot to learn ::grin::
as far as the 'god' thing, who knows. God is a super-sized version of what we wish we could be; our aspirations projected outward and anthropomorphized.
For all we know God/ess could be malevolent and hateful.
I personally believe that "love" is very close to the nature of the God/Goddess, but that love is definitely something very different than what you can feel when you're in love with someone. It's a love that probably we, humans could never really comprehend.
And whether is it the meaning of life? Well, I have no idea what the meaning of life is, but if it is unconditional love, then I guess everything is OK.
Its a second hand emotion, according to the sage Tina Turner.
I partially agree with Ignostic in that the universe is indifferent and everything survives
on each other on Earth. Although I don't give it such a negative spin. The universal laws
are straight forward;we abide by them or not, suffer the good or bad consequences. Then life
moves on.
lol perhaps you would like to hear from someone who has issues with this so called love. For me it's been string after string of people who want my body but not the rest of me. I have my family and my friends but I try to keep the idea of love out of my head. chemical reactions in the brain to help stimulate the mateing of the species. I haven't ever seen love that last forever. shure some people make a great go of it some people stay together for their lives. good on them. good for them being able to comprimise and find a way where one doesnot loose intrest in the other. I don't consider that love. I think that people inclueing myself have a very unhealthy relationship with the myth of love. life long relationships take work.. then again so does spirituality mabie thats the conection?
I don't think The Universe loves me. Neither do I think It hates me. I think, (if It bothers to think of me at all), It merely puts up with me. Much like my cat.
