Seriously, the health-care bill that all our reps are saying is too long to sift through? They say it's what, about 1500 pages? .....um, so? That's what we elect them to do; that's why they have six-figure incomes; so that they are motivated to sift through legislation, to make sure their constituency doesn't get STIFFED. What the hell is the problem? None of these whiny bastards are bothering to read the proposed legislation, and I want to know WHY. Why is it so difficult for these douches to do their JOBS? All this whining about how long the bill is; you know what? The average Harry Potter novel is about 1000 pages long, and fourth-graders buzz through those in a few weeks or less. Am I the only one who has come to the conclusion that our elected officials are over-paid and under-worked?
What do you guys think?

um... the patriot act was passed and the majority of them didn't even read the thing... so why should they read a bill that would be beneficial to their constituents? because their lobbyist said to...

Folks...um...wow.

Rush Limbaugh is neither a role model nor a Pagan.

Well before anyone says this doesn't affect me so but out (I'm in England) I have a lot of friends on your side of the pond and quite frankly what you have at the moment for health care horrifies me. Ours is not perfect and if anyone asked me I would say adopt the system they have in Belgium.
But all that aside I'll give you some examples, say I need an operation, I'm guaranteed to get it within 16 weeks of my first visit to my doctor and I pay nothing, all my medical costs are met by my national insurance contributions which are taken from my pay each week, they total less then $10 a week. I have a pre pay for my prescriptions these are $15 a month and have no limit.
If I was unemployed my prescriptions would be free.
At least Obama is trying to make it better, at least he recognises that it could be better.
Back to the original question, yep, they are all lazy and self serving, regardless of which country they are running.

does he recognize it could be better? yes. is he in fact TRYING to make it better? i'm not convinced he is, anymore. no President ever took so much money as he has from insurance and drug company lobbyists, and i think it shows. i gotta say for once i think your news coverage of american politics in britain is subpar. i love bbc news, watch it all the time, always used to think of its reporting of american politics as more objective than our own, but with all due respect that is no longer the case from what i can see and won't be until you europeans remove your mouths from president obama's c*** and wake up and smell the coffee as an increasing number of us in the states are. it's going to be an ugly hangover the day europeans wake up and realize that obama is not the american messiah, that he's just another corrupt american politician who'll bow to the lowest common denominator and thinks first and foremost about his own career and not the good of the people

I too have begun to question our president's motives....especially given his recent foreign-policy switch-ups...

Maybe you noticed the law he signed two weeks ago? He undid the cuts to the Veteran's Administration that Bush made, added new funding, and fixed it so that the VA budget is done in advance...no more budget shortfalls.
Because of Bush, I had to give up my drug habits (pain pills for a service connected injury, plus insulin and metformin). When the new budget goes into effect, there will once again be a doctor to see me, and drugs for me to take.
Much the same goes for my brother.

I have been without pain pills for 3 years.

In fact, the new VA budget increases staffing so much that I may be able to get a nursing job at the VA...my first Federal job since the early 1990's.

Wow, I had no idea! That's fantastic; maybe he really is trying to live up to his promises....

I'm happy for you. I never said, though, that President Obama was doing nothing right, nor did I claim he was somehow evil. Mostly he's getting credit for fixing a few appalingly bad things that Bush did. Being better than Bush is an easy standard to live up to, and all it proves is that he's not as bad as our worst President ever. I will myself be benefiting from increases for the Federal Pell grants. But a few niceties don't make up for hundreds of billions of unchecked bucks to his corporate buddies at Merrill Lynch and their friends, special benefits for his pals at ACORN (until we the people put a stop to that), rolling back the Clinton era welfare reforms, backsliding or just flat out proving himself to be a liar on the issues of health care, torture, gay rights (a black man repressing the rights of an oppressed minority! the lawyers for his own administration in an official capacity comparing gay marriage to incest and pedophilia! what a crazy mixed up world!), the war in Iraq, limits on executive power, etc..., etc..., etc..., the list goes on and on and on. Time will tell if he will be a good President or not, but right now the best I can say for him is he's slightly better than Bush, and that ain't saying a whole hell of a lot.
