I asked Dionysus this question in prayer a few nights ago and this is what I "felt" him say:
Jesus can't heal an amputee because he can't recreate the bone and other parts needed for the leg out of nowhere(I.E. just make them appear) the parts would have to come from someone(I.E. Another person) and he can't just take a leg away from a "non believer" and give it to the amputee.
Thanks for all your thoughts and replies Blessed Be
I ask the question to Dionysus because it came up and I wondered if he had a opinion on it. I think the opinion is relevant for me because it helped me.
I have been trying to understand my path and faith better and that has lead to a lot of strange questions.
Generally,Pagans arent too concerned wirh Christiasn issues to begin with, Many of us will talk about it from an intellectual ponint, but our roots, faith and belief is not based on Moses or Jesus, but on other things. On the contrary John, most Pagans and witches I know have no problem on coming to an agreement on these terms, really.
I find it rather silly that for a pagan site so many people talk about jesus and Christianity, bashing mostly from what ive seen. fact of the matter is you can pray to whatever god or goddess you want and they wouldnt help am amputee get a new limb out of nowhere either. Doesnt matter if youre christian or any other religion, you lose a limb youre screwed unless you have the part come from another person :)
I am not bashing Christianity, I just asked a question and got answer from a God I pray to and I wanted to see what other people thought about it.
Dionysus even said he can't heal an amputee for that very reason.
I agree. The question is not Why wouldn't God Heal an amputee, it's Why would he? If you are an amputee, It is for 1 of 2 reasons... Either because of something that you did or something someone else did. Either way you have pay the consequences, even if it is caused by someone else, there is a reason for it... even if that reason is unknown... there is still a reason. Your suffering serves a purpose, even if you don't know what it is, and no God, Goddess, or All powerful being is going to come down from the sky or across another plane of existence to repair a limb that you can live without, and I'm sure serves some purpose. This may be a little blunt, but that's the way I feel, and that's the way I am!
So by that logic, we shouldn't try to heal people's injuries at all, because there's a reason for it (even if we don't know it), they have to pay the consequences, and their suffering serves a purpose?
If one of your closest friends was in a terrible accident and lost an arm, would you tell her she had to pay the consequences and that no god was going to come down from the sky to fix an arm she can live without? What about children disfigured by land mines - should we step back so as to not interfere with the cosmic pattern, since there is a reason for their suffering, even if we don't know it? Should we search for a cure for breast cancer, or try to prevent school shootings, or should we leave it up to fate?
As human beings, we have compassion for others and try to help alleviate their suffering. Is that really such a bad thing? Yes, suffering is a natural part of human existence, but so is healing and comfort. Why shouldn't the gods participate in our healing? Surely the desire to help people is more than just a sign of human weakness and folly.
Very interesting point, but you are covering 2 bases where I only covered 1... and it comes down to "individual opinions"
BASE 1- That's not what I meant, I meant that no God is going to come down from the sky to heal basically, because if they did for one then they would do for all, and utopia can never exist... I believe it is far more complex then that, but I am trying to "summarize" and yes, I do not believe that the gods should participate in our healing because if they interfered, then they would always have to, and if they didn't always interfere, how would they decide?, who says that you deserve to be healed and I don't? And If they healed everyone then they would heal drunk drivers, vandals, murderers who have been hurt by their victims trying to fight back, as well as the people who got hurt by natural means and accidents. It just can't happen, without pain there would be no compassion, If the gods came down, and healed all pain, we essentially wouldn't care about anything, nothing would stop you, wanna jump off that cliff? Sure! Why not? the gods will just come down and heal me anyway! etc.
Then... That poses the question... well if God (any) will come down and heal my physical pain, why not my emotional pain, and that's just it, why not? That's the whole point of this discussion, and if the gods healed all physical and emotional pain, there would be no point in living, we would be "numb" you wouldn't have to try not to hurt someones feelings, it wouldn't matter, you wouldn't have to worry about doing bad things because you wouldn't care, and ultimately, we would become the "gods" because we would be unstoppable, unless the actual gods stopped interfering, which is why they should not intervene in the first place....
BASE 2 - Of course as human beings, we are compassionate, because of the pain that we have felt, we don't want anyone else to suffer in the same ways that we have, we know what it feels like to hurt, and feel sad, and we don't wish that upon anyone, so naturally we are going to try to help in any way that we can, I was not saying that "people" as a whole or individually, should stop trying to heal and help others, I was simply saying that if you do there may be consequences, you will never "actually know" it's just meant to make you think, If someone is meant to suffer, and you fix it will you suffer later because you cure their suffering? That type of question... for which there is no real answer, but what you believe. Some will think yes, some will think no, it just depends on what you believe.
The point is, that as people yes we should help as much as we can, (but there will be consequences that we may or may not even be aware of, and all consequences don't have to be bad, by the way.) and the gods should not.
In my first message I said that the gods wouldn't, and shouldn't heal us, I didn't touch base on people, I have always tried to help as many people as possible, and always will, I may have to pay for that, and I may not... but gods should not heal us... They should comfort us, and help to guide us through it, sure, but not heal.
