ah but all the answers are within us, just not fully seen and hidden by our own ambition and desires to truly know, when it is really just very hidden symbolism on our very soul and bodies.....

"older times" when were these older times? what about children that were raised to follow certain beliefs because thier parents and grand parents believed that way? where would that fall in your nifty only three ways to enter scheme?
i dont buy it...i think there are many many ways to reach the finish line, and no matter how you run the race there will be someone there saying you cheated because you didnt do it the same way they did.
bottom line is this, if it feels wrong to your soul its most likely wrong for you. threatening and harrasing or using peer pressure to get someone to do something against thier will is wrong. period

I don't know if this article has been posted, but I think it explains sex and initiation pretty well... at least for the Vicia tradition.

Victor Anderson, from a conversation with SoulFire, transcribed 9/7/1998:

We do not consider sex as an “aspect” of something. It’s not just important because it’s something on the side; it’s just what it is. And it is not unlawful to have sex to initiate somebody, but it must be that person’s choice. If you don’t have love for that person, and they don’t have love for you, what is the use?

Yes, we do initiate that way, but it’s no different and it is no more shameful than for people to be sexually active before they get married, but they must be with the right person, and a right time and a right place for a relationship. We do not throw ourselves around like that.

It’s no different than say, if you go to live with somebody, and you mate with them and you unite with them in that way. But if you are doing this for another purpose and you already have a lover or if you wish to wait, we have the Intentions of the Heart. Because that’s what counts.

Of course, it is always sad when a person cannot be initiated by Full Rite, but there are so many reasons why. It has to be an act of love just as if you were marrying somebody or going with him or her. It’s got to be somebody you care about enough, and if they are not willing to be initiated in that way, we have a ceremony called the Intentions of the Heart.”
