Cakes and Ale For The Pagan Soul by Patricia J. Telesco

Well, I figure a late book review is better than no book review, right?

Cakes and Ale For The Pagan Soul by Patricia J. Telesco is the Pagan version of the Chicken Soup For The Soul series that are out there in our literary world. I was blessed with the monetary opportunity to purchase this book about three to four years ago. My best friend currently has it in her posession.

It's a basic pick-me-upper when our Pagan souls are weary, dried out, and lost. Wonderfully written insight from well known Pagan "celebrities", if you will; the experience of others help us grow, and especially when we least expect it. I suggest to get to your nearest bookstore, check and see if it's in stock or make an order for it. It is worth the dollars spent on it, believe me, 'cause us Pagans get depressed and feel down, too! I wish they would have just made a Chicken Soup For The Pagan Soul series... Cakes and ale, how very warm and comforting. I understand the "significance" of cakes and ale in ritual, but it just doesn't say comfort food to me. And that is what these books are supposed to be, comfort food, for the soul. I don't know... just my .02.

You know, that is true...it's possible that Telesco was trying to distinguish the book as a truly Pagan book, with no relation to the Chicken Soup For The Soul series. Chicken soup is very healing, I believe. But, I also figure, if the book is for all of us Pagans/Witches/Wiccans, etc., then why make it 'Cakes and Ale' instead of 'Chicken Soup'? Because, I'm darn sure we would be smart enough to understand the book was Pagan if she titled it something along the lines of 'Chicken Soup For The Pagan Soul'. I would've understood that just fine. Last I checked, the CSFTS series are Christian-based. Maybe she wanted the public to see the difference...oh well. It's still a good book by my standards and many other people's standards, lol! Blessings,
Yomaira

Thank you for sharing this. I will have to order it :)

It may be a Copy Right thing. I am pretty sure the Term "Chicken Soup for the Soul" is copy righted by the Publishing Company. I highly doubt that the wanted to pay for the rights to write under this name. If they would even let them? I have a similar book that is called the Herbal Tea for the Pagan Spirit. www.amazon.com/Herbal-Tea-Pagan-Spirit-Inspirational/dp/0972516417
