Sanskrit is said to be a spiritually resonant language, a prayer-in-itself, so you don't have to actually sing along to feel the effects of these tracks --- the melodies, harmonies and classic
mantras interweave to provide an uplifting and palpable experience, even as ambient music.

On her new CD
Kirtan Equation, musician and Svaroopa yogini
Clair Oaks delivers a wonderful selection of call-and-response
kirtan for
mantra practice. I've had the honor of seeing Oaks perform live, and her love for her craft is heartfelt and inspiring.

Likewise,
Sat Kartar Kaur Khalsa, musician and Kundalini/Naad yogini, deftly blends Eastern
and Western musical styles in a beautiful collection of Sikh
kirtan on her CD
Flow. This is probably the most musically diverse of the featured works --- some of her tracks have a definite fusion vibe, but the lyrics stay central throughout.

Singh Kaur and Kim Robertson's collaborations on the
Crimson Series are staples of meditative music, and the entire collection has been rereleased in CD format. Robertson's Celtic harp accompanies Kaur's ethereal vocals through a series of beloved classical
mantras, repeated long and steadily enough for ritual work as well as yoga.
