An animal guide can come to you to teach you a specific lesson or to guide you to your totem animal. They can come and go throughout your life as you need them. Totem animals are with you for life. They can belong to a clan, family or an individual. Totems act as your guardian spirit. The totem itself is the symbol that represents this animal. You can make a totem of this animal with a picture or carving and keep it on your person or someplace in your home as a form of protection. Are you drawn to a particular animal? Do you see it often in nature or dream of it often? Do you keep pictures of this animal in your home? You will feel a strong connection to your totem animal.
