Arthurian Myth and Legends

Join us on a meandering journey through the Dark Age and Medieval Britain as we explore the myths and legends of King Arthur and his knights (not forgetting the ladies, of course). What would Camelot and Avalon be without the ladies? :)

Hi, everyone! It's that spooky time of year again!

Next month at our Arthurian Mythology/Folklore sister-site --- "Arthurian Myth and Legends"--- following our yearly tradition --- we'll be running our series of posts, known as "The Arthurian Halloween Specials".

For all things that rattle, moan, groan, and go bump in the dead of night, come join us as we go in search of famous (and not quite so famous) Arthurian haunts, ghosts and demons, Perilous Bridges and Perilous Beds.

Find out where you can meet the ghost of Merlin, the undead horse of King Arthur, and the shade of the Green Knight. Or perhaps you'd rather find out where you can catch a glimpse of Arthur and his knights riding perpetually through the mists, or being enchanted into taking the form of clucking chickens. Fancy meeting the phantoms of St. Nechtan's Glen, or a date with the Arthurian Lady in Green, or the ghosts of Glastonbury Abbey? We'll tell you how, and more!

Please feel free to post any spooky Arthurian ghost stories, tales of gloriously haunted old Arthurian castles, or retellings of Arthurian ghostly activity, such as violently shaking beds and knights coming back from the dead; ghosts of Arthur's horses, or even paranormal events, such as reported sightings of Excalibur rising up from lakes, or of the headless Green Knight ... Anything is welcome here, including Lancelot battling demons, the Welsh stories of the bloodthirsty Addanc, and so on.

Whether you think you've seen the ghosts of Arthur's knights roaming around ancient burial mounds, or if you've had visions of the Grail carried by angels, that's fine with us too.

Please just let your hair down and post... that is, if you're not too spooked already by the current economic crisis... but I guarantee that if you post something, you'd feel much better because it will help to keep your mind off things.

We'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

The Arthurian Halloween Specials will run from 1 - 31 October at AML:

Karen

See you there! :)

BB,
Karen

oh I am on Fb too. I think it would make a lovely print and would sell very well..

The real painting (and soon the print) is nearly 3 feet wide, and its far more detailed than you can see on the photo.
The sunlight is just breaking on the edge of the Tor and on the bushes on the hill.
My friends on Facebook have agreed that this painting has to be produced as a box canvas print, ready to hang on peoples walls, so I have contacted my printer to get that sorted asap.

Hi there, as I am a professional artist and a lover of all things Arthurian, i thought it might be nice to show you my latest painting..of Glastonbury Tor.

This is called "The Onlooker"

Alison Patricia Browning Comment by Alison Patricia Browning on May 20, 2009 at 2:55pm
I finally found my interpretation of the goddess, Guinivere I am barren and for years I was alienated in the Christian church due to the fact that all the barren women were rewarded with children eventually and in the psalms it says how God maketh the barren women to be a mother of children, so of course I felt the devil had cursed me, then I discovered the Pagan and old ways and again could not relate to the female either as she was the mother goddess, maiden, mother, crone etc and all these big hipped teeny tiny waisted earth mother goddess statues that were fruitful, finally i was giving up on ever having a female Goddess or saint who I could look up to, I always related to Bridget as I was born on her feast day but she is very connected with fertility, then I thought of Arthur`s queen, she was beautiful, a powerful woman of legend and she was barren too.
