i was raised mostly raised with christian and asian beliefs but was exposed to different beliefs,
I come from a combination of Latin American, Stregheria, and Gypsy traditions. While it was never "promoted", nor given a specific name from family members (Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles), I was always drawn to practice in many forms. It was just something that people in my family did as part of every day life. I never attended any family type rituals or worked spells other than add this here, add that there and that was that. As I became older I developed intuitive sensitivity - while skipping my mother it apparently hit myself and brother. While he only uses his sensitivity from time to time, I wholly embraced this life learning all I could feeling the most comfortable I ever had before. I felt home and didn't know the draw until much older when my mother told me about other family members. I finally asked why there was never anything said, or practiced around the kids, or in the open and was told that those who had the gifts felt that when a specific child showed the draw and ability, it would reveal itself and be reavealed unto them. Wow talk about old ways of tradition and keeping things secret. However, growing like this I feel that it allowed me to explore many different traditions and learn on my own what was being done was actually magick and specific to certain traditions. I'm glad I was never bombarded with family way is the only way but allowed to decide what was right for me.
I'm very happy to be here and thank you for allowing my contribution here.
Blessings!

Comment by BlackRaven on May 17, 2011 at 3:21pm Thanks, Geoffrey, glad to be here. I'm currently reading Traditional Witchcraft: A Cornish book of Ways by Gemma Gary. It's a really good book though you have to order it from England and it's sold out from Troy books. I'm a firm believer in following practices that come from your ancestors and not to let others tell you what to do.
My mother is against witchcraft, which is why my practice is much different. I have both Greek and Egyptian gods on my different altars but I have one that's just for my Trad practice. I do rituals to keep my family safe, sometimes using Greek deities, and some of my rituals take time, like a couple of hours. I'm 31, if anyone wants to know, but my mother thinks that she can control me.
I firmly believe in using prayers from the bible to aid me and I've had some great results from doing it. I'm also big on the spirit world and Hedge witchery.
