Hi everyone, just joined the group. Was wondering if anyone would want to start swapping seeds. I ended up with too many seeds for like tomatoes, swiss chard, rhubarb, etc. Just wanted to throw that idea out there.
Blessings,
Demonna

I don't have a cold weather room, but if the pansies are shaded enough, can they survive the heat of Texas.

Hi Kendra...
In England... we have 'universal pansies' that grow all year round...
In reality though... they are usually only grown in the winter... as they can cope with the colder temperatures... (they pretty much flower if its a couple of degrees above freezing)...
They're usually replaced in the summer by something a bit more tender... and with bigger showier flowers... :-)

I am just starting my meager little garden this year. Currently have Lavender and Rosemary, both in pots. Unforetunately my rosemary has powdery mildew. I bought some organic fungicide which ironically has as the active ingrediant rosemary oil. Not sure this is working although it has only been a few days since I have started using it.

So my question is, does anyone know how long I should keep using this before I decide to try someother treatment?

Cool group by the way.

Hi River, yeh, definately will keep the mint in pots. :-) course, I could let the chickens keep 'em pruned down naturally. LOL. We've actually been using the rosemary as decorative plants, and they look good with the pansies.

I'm hoping the tree that's in the chicken pen will offset the worst of the heat for the herbs. Push comes to shove, I'll get a shadecover up over them.

Speaking of pansies, I know they're a winter plant, but is it the cold that keeps 'em going? I'm hoping I can repot and put them under deep shade and get them through the summer rather then lose them.

Wildchooh, you might try wal-mart. We've never had problems ith the seeds from there, and I noticed this year they have organic seeds in packages.

Hi ya'll. Some recommendations, please? Got a veggie garden going this year, and are running a 26ft row length for herbs. I've got rosemary in pots, and will do mint in pots as well, but as a basic, cooking set-up, what's recommended for herbs? It'll be a full Texas sun, though there's a high cut hackberry in the chicken pen, that may do light partial shade.

I'm working for basics this year, though may expand elsewhere and see about oils, lotions etc. But that's a future thing. Thnaks! :-)

river-- thanks for the comment. i'll be sure to double-check the sun tolerance thing out before trusting pot tags.

btw, it's not sallie.... lol though i do seem to get that a lot.
