Johnhenry I am so glad to hear that. I have read that it is a sort of a miracle "drug" for arthritis and such. I need to get some. I've also read that fish oil supplements can be beneficial for pain. I've been taking a very high quality supplement with oil from squid that is supposedly more helpful than the other types. I do feel a bit better but still struggling. Where did you get your devil's claw? Mountain Rose Herbs has it I think. It's grown in Africa I think so it is hard to get.

Demeter everything is against me! I need employees. Or volunteers. Ha! I need to get outside and get busy! But it's been raining again for days. It's ok. I'll get to it I hope. Ha!

hi Amethyst and everyone

he mulching is a good idea, and newspaper or cardboard will kill off most weeds, some like bindweed will persist though, and once the paper has done its job and rotted down then watch out for weed seedlings appearing and just hoe them off.

Here in UK the weather has been awful, very cold and wet, and it's supposed to be summer but not much growing here.  This year is tackling weeds and doing the groundwork... next year it might look nice again.  :)

Amethyst you sound like you have a lot of work on with your plot and the weather against you too.  It's certainly a challenge and I wish you good luck getting on top of it. x

Overlapping is a no-brainer! My weed garden is so prolific I'm afraid I'll have to overlap my overlapped overlaps. Don't have to worry about the rain water getting to it either. The last few seasons we have just had so much rain. Still getting it. Hence the weed garden! The ground is wet just to walk on! Grass is growing all to well! I'm wanting to start a small herb garden too. Have wanted to do that for a long time. Looking for that motivation...struggling with it!

Amethyst...yes newspaper most suredly does work very well. Just don't put some much on that the rain water can't get through it. Mulch or rocks can help hold it down, but intrusive grass will fine it's way between the pages if you don't overlap a lot.  Did it for years and years..it does compost, but takes a while...current kind of paper is better than the old kind and the black ink is less toxic than the old kind. Good luck. I planted a few herbs recently and my cilantro has grown and bloomed already.

I've still got to get my butt outside and start on weeds Demeter! I've got some serious motivation issues. I've decided to pull as many as I can and the. Lay down layers of newspaper to take care of the rest. I e read that it is very effective. Several layers, enough to block the light, will do the trick or so I've read. The paper composts and is allegedly good for the soil and you can plant new things right through it. Sounds almost too good to be true right? You just have to be careful and only use the black and white newspaper print. The colored inks and heavily processed papers can leach ugly stuff into the soil.

I'm gonna try it soon as I can get some mulch. I'd like to put a small layer of mulch down to keep newspapers from blowing all over the neighborhood. Hahaha!

Enjoy this turn of the wheel all! Time marches on doesn't it!

Johnnielyn horseradish root is an amazing thing to help clear your sinuses. You can eat it or just chop some and smell it. It's quite potent so be careful if you eat it. And Demeter is right...if you've got a serious infection you do need to see a doc.

Demeter my garden of weeds has exploded as well. We finally got warm weather and things have just leafed and bloomed out like crazy. I want to go out and start trying to pull weeds as I can. With Dale gone I have wa too much time on my hands and need to be doing something constructive with it. I just need the motivation! Your gardens and flowers are always so gorgeous. Can't wait to see your pics!

hello everyone

Hope everyone is well.

Lots of good ideas and herbal help in this group which is good, but don't forget if things arent getting better or it is serious then to see a doctor.

Steam and a few drops of eucalyptus oil added to the water can help clear sinuses, but be careful that they aren't infected which can be extremely painful and you would need antibiotics for that.

Amehyst.. how are you doing, is your garden picking up now.  We finally have some warmer weather in the UK so things are growing, including a horrid patch of bindweed that I am tackling.  Meanwhile I am growing herbs in pots and containers.

Have a blessed Beltaine everyone

D x
