Well, actually you already have your wand. A basic wand is just a plain branch. And some will just pick up a fallen branch or a piece of driftwood on a beach, use it for their ritual and then leave it behind when they are done.

What you do with your basic branch is up to you. You can carve designs into it, paint it, glue on stones, feathers or whatever, and add anything else that you want. I prefer a plain wand with a pointed end that that I sanded smooth and rubbed with oil to finish it. But then I like to keep things simple in my work.

MM y'all. For Qui a le: I've been kicking around the idea of making a wooden athame myself lately. I custom-craft wands and staves, but have a pre-made (though self modified) athame. I would think the athame should incorporate metal on the blade in some regard. However, since you're not cutting anything material with it, it does'nt have to be sharp, ergo it may not even have to have an edge. Perhapse using some copper or silver inlay on a wooden blade might work...

This looks like an extremely interesting group! I've had the idea in my mind to start making my own tools now for about a year but haven't gotten started yet. Finding this group might just be what I needed to get going!

My father is a carpenter by hobby (R.N by career) and he made me my altar (though that wasn't what he intended...) and I've been working on my woodburning skills.

I've always wanted to know how to make tools myself, and I'm looking forward to learning some new things.

Greetings all! Followed a friend here. Everything on my altar is a gift from my husband. He carved my pentagram. The rest were purchased but I know he put a lot of consideration in them. However my altar is nto complete(I have my pentagram, a salt chrystal candle holder, a soapstone mortor and pestle and a carved box with a moon and star on it that I keep my very small collection of herbs and stones/chrystals in). It is a work in progress. But anyways, all that to ask a question...can my athame and boline be carved from wood, or must they be iron/metal? My husband is a very good woodworker and enjoys making things, I would like him to make the brunt of my tools for me.

Blessed Be

Erica
