Hi Paul.  If you choose to use the custard you can just buy a box of pudding, or the web has many recipes starting from scratch.  But I thought the filling in the donuts was a vanilla cream.  If you like to cook I think you should look up the ingredients in both of those and see for yourself which one you like better.  The reason that you should look up the recipes yourself is that there is often a choice to what ingredients you would like to put in.

paul I'm not sure about donuts but the cream thats in a boston cream pie is a regular old custard.
