if you are getting rapped bubbling you you should be fine.

so i noticed that my fermentation lock wasn't producing steady bubbles and it has been 72 hours since i put the seal on my carboy. i ended up putting electrical tape around it and it solved the problem immediately. how likely do you think it is that the batch was contaminated?

I forget how lucky I'm to live where I do. We have quite a few suburban beekeepers around here. there's a lot of good honey down south too though. any of the road side farm stores should have a good selection. orange blossom, sage, avocado and more. you probably won't save any money if you make a special trip, but definitely worth stopping when you drive by. Also if you look around, you mite find some backyard beekeepers near you.

I ended up just getting it from food 4 less. I needed 12 lbs. so it was a bit expensive to go with gourmet honey. I was really just kind of wondering how much cheaper would it be to get it from a beekeeper, if it would be worth it for me to drive out to the country. Thank you for the earnest response.

It's true. I'm not often accused of being fast. Some of my secondary choices are; local beekeepers (many of who will gladly trade honey for good home brewed mead), local farmers market (the one around here usually has two or three local beekeepers), roadside farm stands (I have found a large variety at farm stands reasonably priced) and health food stores (they tend to be more expensive but some will cut you a deal on bulk orders). If your looking for a more specific honey you may need to order it online.

must have taken you a while to think of that.

I'm excited. I'm nervous I've done something wrong, but we'll see. I'm trying to get friends to start a batch as well.

Congrats, Andy.  The first batch is the sweetist.
