مسجد جامع من اللات‎ (Mosque of Al-Lāt)

Information

مسجد جامع من اللات‎ (Mosque of Al-Lāt)

I feel that it's time for an Arabian Pagan group devoted to the Great Triple Goddess of Arabia, اللات‎ (Al-Lāt), who was one of the three chief goddesses of Mecca. Time that She is worshipped as the Goddess and not just another idol. Allatu Akbar!

An interesting thought too. :)

Thanks for the invite and the pic of the triad that I snagged. :)
Seeing the wheat in Allat's hands made me remember that the Arabian peninsula and the middle east used to be much more fertile. Perhaps the people's disappointment and disfavor of the Goddess corresponds with the drying up of the land. Just a thought.

Aerinndis,

Here is a site on preislamic arabian paganism that may help:

http://sakina.wikidot.com/arabian-deities

(Not scholarly, but it's the closest I can find right now)

Shalm-Allat! Can anyone point me to some good scholarly texts on the topic of Al-Lat? She was only mentioned briefly in passing in my formal studies and I've always wanted to know more.

)O(Triple Scheme)O(
Al-Uzza - Maiden
..Al-Lat - Mother
..Menat - Crone

I'm sure that's obvious, but I like to inform anyone who doesn't know.

Fascinating subject. Ex-husband was from Yemen and while he sucked as a husband - well basically as a human being when we had discussions of Arabic history, particularly pagan worship, he was actually quick knowledgeable. Learned a lot from him. The only decent conversations we had come to think about it. LOL

Thanks again for the invite.

Have you thought of Allāt and al-'Uzzā,
and Manāt the third, the other?
These are the exalted cranes,
whose intercession is hoped for.

Blessings.

I studied Arabic more than a few decades ago, but, thought this may assist in your quest.

The word for Sun [shams] ( شمس) is feminine in gender. In Arabic nouns have gender denotation. When i learned that so long ago i understood that it must be based on pagan roots.

The word for Moon [quf] ( قم) i do not recall the gender for.

Although Islam, as many Abrahamic religions have also done, eradicated the Pagan roots of the populace, there are still traces here and there that
show up in the language.

Bright Blessings!
