Boozhoo (hello) to everyone. I haven't been on this site in years. I've been reading a lot about people wanting to learn more about the Native Culture. My suggestion to you is attend lots of local pow wows. Get to know your local elders. Seek their knowledge. Sure you can "read" about the history til you are blue in the face. But there is nothing like hearing the stories from a true elder. I'm Ojibwe from The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewas. My grandma was taken from her family and forced to live in a boarding school. My dad was relocated to St. Louis during the Indian relocation act. So there is a lot of unwritten history out there. Seek it out. Good luck

Morning from Maine! I have been doing my tree for a few years. I knew we had Native American in there somewhere because my mom looked well...Native American. I discovered my maternal great grandfather was 25% Micmac. Very interesting!

Hey I am new her but I am native American on both sides of my family. I grew up on a reservation/tribe actually but my family wasn't really traditional so I never was able to really learn about native American traditions. My great grandfather on both sides of the family were the last chiefs as well so I myself have a huge connection with the native Americans but I haven't really learned much from them....

I've been doing research on my daughter-in-law's family too.. so far I've found three tribes that she is related to.

I've been doing a lot of research into my family history lately and have discovered that my grandmother's (fathers side) father was of the Passamaquoddy tribe and after finally tracking down my grandfather (mother's side) I found out that his grandmother was a cherokee woman who married a white man. I haven't found too much more but it definitely has me curious. :)

Can anyone recommend any good books or documentaires on the religious beliefs & practices of Native Americans? I have always been drawn to their ways but don't know where to start.

Hey everyone! I have known that I was part Native American since I was in elementary school when we had to do a family tree project. I have since then forgotten what tribe sadly so I need to get a hold of my grandma and ask her again. I have been wanting to learn more about Native American history the last few years and that had led me to join a newly developed tribe here in my area. We haven't been able to do much yet on the learning end but, have picked a time so we can start meeting and learning regularly. None of us are full blooded Native American. We are really just a group of people with Native American blood and a strong desire to get back in touch with our roots. Just something exciting that I really wanted to share with you all :) I really hope to learn even more here to share with my group!
