~ Thoughts on Pagan Parenting ~

Poetry is a very important part of the Wiccan Religion. Read poetry to your children whenever you get a chance. Encourage them to express themselves through poetry.

Music is also such a wonderful part of the Wiccan religion. I try to sing my children's names in little songs that I change or even make up. I'm a terrible singer, but they love my enthusiasm.

Expose your children to art. We're lucky enough to have a great art museum very close to our house. Give your children plenty of opportunities to express themselves through paint, sculpture, etc.

Read to your children. Discuss with them what they read. Get them thinking about what they read.

Cook with your children. They will feel successful and learn a valuable skill. It may take longer and make a bigger mess, but it's well worth it.

Start and continue traditions with your child. This is what they will remember and pass on to your grandchildren. The traditions don't have to be elaborate, just something you'll all enjoy doing together for the Sabbats or other special occassions.

Dance, laugh, sing, play, discover, cuddle, love, read, kiss, wrestle, run, skip, explore, make messes. That's what a Pagan parent can do with their children.

I think by being close to our children we become closer to the Divine. Sharing the Elements with you children, showing them the Full Moon...seeing their wonder and delight can help you feel it too

Other people's thoughts that I liked:

An imaginative child is rarely a lonely child.
Children will forget what you told them, but they won't forget how you made them feel.
Children are a gift from the Goddess. Loving them and taking good care of them is your way to say "Thank you" to her.
Parenting is a trial and error process.

Goddess, We Thank Thee
For the flowers that bloom about our feet,
For the tender grass so fresh and sweet,
For the song of the bird and the hum of the bee,
for all the beauty we hear or see,
Goddess, we thank thee.
For the blue of the stream and of the sky,
For the pleasant shade of branches up high,
For the fragrant air and cooling breeze,
For the beauty of the blooming trees,
Goddess, we thank thee.

Only truth rings from these words and I appreciate every single one. Thank you all.

It doesn't matter what he says it stands for. She shouldnt have to stand for it at all. no one else uses it with that defination. so she won't either. I've heard people argue that the n word means something else but the fact is. if you say it it's only gonna be taken one way....badly.

Ask him how he would feel if another man called his child that word and it hurt her in such a way that the mental damage was irrepairable. Also, ask him how'd he feel if she started calling him a lil C$ck and it stands for: Charming, Open, Caring and Kind. See what he'd say then.

Thanks for responding. I confronted him, like I said, and I asked of him something so simple: Please do NOT say it in front of me. I can't stop him from saying it at any other time, but not while in my presence. And he had a fit, stating, "The word stands for Beautiful Intelligent Trustworthy Charming Honest. I don't mean it in any other way!" I just don't see it the way he does. I almost cried out of the anger formed within me last night. He's been doing it for a while now. I just don't know.

My husband and I use to cuss alot! but we have to conciously not do it even when we are playing around because we agreed that we don't want our daughter to sayy that stuff. I said "if she calls you a F@%#$ you are gonna be ticked, and I don't want to go to a school confereance for her when she says something bad at school" (she's two) and sure enough the next day at day care she promptly let out a string of words that I know we both said.
I don't want ara growing up thinking it is ok to talk to people that way and I defenatly don't want her thinking her self worth is that low that she can only be a B...Tell him that he would be ticked if someone else called her that and he's setting her up to be treated like that by other people because she WILL start to respond to it.

I have a ? concerning a parenting issue I'm having with my daughter's father. When he and I are kickin' it, spending time together, we cuss and swear every so often. One word we throw around freely is B*TCH. But, when he calls our daughter LIL' B*TCH, it really gets to me. I bring it up to him and he gets mad, saying, "We say the word sometimes when we joke around. Why do you get mad if I direct it towards Lyanna (our daughter)?" To me, it is a derogatory word, even if I use it w/ him. I hardly do use it, though, because I really don't like the word. Where are my feelings wrong? Please help me see the error of my ways if I am wrong here. Thanks,
Yomaira
BB to all!

I have a ? for all the group:
I have celebrated the Pagan holidays through the years. Halloween/Samhain and Christmas/Yule have been in my life since I was born, just more Christianized, of course. I've never incorporated my Pagan beliefs into Thanksgiving and I would love to this year. My ? is: What are some good ideas to bring Paganism/Witchcraft and Thanksgiving together...and without "freaking" my Christian family out?

I'm finishing up knitting my daughter's ear flap hat and then I have to do her mittens and both her's and my son's scarves before winter hits...

I'm just super psyched because last night I was looking for their presents and the two main ones were over $100...however, while going to the grocery store, I saw a yard sale and they had BOTH toys! I got them for $8 total! WOOHOOO!!!
