So I was tucking my son into bed and we are about to talk to Goddess, as we do. He begins saying "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my soul..." Then he kinda drifted off into "Goddess bless my sleepy head." Which is part of what we say. My father knows full well that I am raising my son Pagan, and has apparently been saying this prayer with him when he spends the night at his house!! I am SO ANGRY!!

So, I have two options, confront my father, and get into a huge argument and he probably would still do it anyway, or act like nothing happened. My husband thinks I should take the later road, and just be sure that I am always talking to Goddess with him when he is here. (He only spend one night a week at my dad's house) I am so hurt. I knew that he disagreed with my beliefs, but when will I find out next, that he is taking him to church behind my back too? I am all for teaching my son about other religions, don't get me wrong, but he is only three, and I wold like to him to have a firm understanding of Paganism first, then worry about explaining all the different ones as he gets a little older.

Has anyone gone through this, or have any advice for me? Thank you!

Sort of off topic here, but does it seem to anyone else like mostly Catholics have taken to Paganism (based on this thread alone) I was raised Catholic as well (by my fanatical hypocritical grandmother). Last year I finally decided to look for my own path.

Anyhow, I guess I'm pretty lucky, my immediate family (parents on my side and my husbands side) aren't terribly religious, the most they do is pray for a meal at supper. My family has a vague sense that I'm not Christian, though I'm still sort of in the closet about it. But they don't press religion at all. So, I really don't have any advice, but I am already trying to teach my 5 year old that there are many different religions and that they all deserve respect. We just had a discussion the other day (as Halloween draws near and the costumes ar out in stores now) about the devil. That was a toughie...

I am a single mom and my 2 children go to their dads and grandma's house on week ends. They are christian and do make my kids go to church with them. My kids use to come home and tell me that their father says I am wrong and believing in the Goddess is stupid. I explained to them that not everyone is willing to open their hearts to the love of the Goddess and that is very sad in itself because we all need a Mothers Love. I went on to add, in all life there is male and female. I got out one of our childrens encyclopedias about nature and we went over how creation works, the birds and the bees! lol! I then explained to them that with only God, all we have is an idea. We need the Goddess to make it all real. They felt so much better and I did to! I showed them love and understanding and their father only showed dissaprovement and hate. They gave me a giant hug and kiss and thanked me for being the best Mom in the world! :))

No i would be a little ticked off too... i am understanding of other peoples religions, but it doesnt mean i want brainwashing to occur... i am 14 weeks pregnant and my mother disagrees with my religious choices... and i am actually afraid she will do the same thing.

There is nothing wrong with teaching your child about different religions, but teaching and brainwashing are two different things in my opinion... you can teach with the intention of informing, and you can teach with the intention of converting...
