~ Thoughts on Pagan Parenting ~

Poetry is a very important part of the Wiccan Religion. Read poetry to your children whenever you get a chance. Encourage them to express themselves through poetry.

Music is also such a wonderful part of the Wiccan religion. I try to sing my children's names in little songs that I change or even make up. I'm a terrible singer, but they love my enthusiasm.

Expose your children to art. We're lucky enough to have a great art museum very close to our house. Give your children plenty of opportunities to express themselves through paint, sculpture, etc.

Read to your children. Discuss with them what they read. Get them thinking about what they read.

Cook with your children. They will feel successful and learn a valuable skill. It may take longer and make a bigger mess, but it's well worth it.

Start and continue traditions with your child. This is what they will remember and pass on to your grandchildren. The traditions don't have to be elaborate, just something you'll all enjoy doing together for the Sabbats or other special occassions.

Dance, laugh, sing, play, discover, cuddle, love, read, kiss, wrestle, run, skip, explore, make messes. That's what a Pagan parent can do with their children.

I think by being close to our children we become closer to the Divine. Sharing the Elements with you children, showing them the Full Moon...seeing their wonder and delight can help you feel it too

Other people's thoughts that I liked:

An imaginative child is rarely a lonely child.
Children will forget what you told them, but they won't forget how you made them feel.
Children are a gift from the Goddess. Loving them and taking good care of them is your way to say "Thank you" to her.
Parenting is a trial and error process.

Lady of the Earth,
Each day I wake upon thy body
Each Day I wake to your beauty
Each day I wake to your blessings
Each day I wake to your love
You who are all things,
Through your essence all things are sacred

Lady of the Sky,
You are the veil that protects us
You are the blessings we take in with each breath
You nurish us and sustain us
You gude and love us

Godess of the Universe,
You are the Sun, The stars, and the moon
You are the Love and Fear
You are the comfort and love
You are the Peace and Choas
You are ALL

Guide me, Great Mother
Hold me in your loving arms
Kiss me with your Divine Love
Give me Peace
Give me Estacy
I praise thee

Goddess, We Thank Thee
For the flowers that bloom about our feet,
For the tender grass so fresh and sweet,
For the song of the bird and the hum of the bee,
for all the beauty we hear or see,
Goddess, we thank thee.
For the blue of the stream and of the sky,
For the pleasant shade of branches up high,
For the fragrant air and cooling breeze,
For the beauty of the blooming trees,
Goddess, we thank thee.

they say that soft instrumental can help those of adhd. also, try to get him to meditate. it will be difficult at first but it can be done. my brother has adhd and he meditates quite frequently now. first try meditating for 2 minutes, then 5 etc. hopefully that helps crystal.

I am a solitary so it is hard to get to groups far off I try to teach my son but he gets bored sometimes unless there are pictures to color, he has ADHD, so it is getting him to listen more I am trying to find music but I could not read music if my life depended on it D: I have to try to make up my own tunes.

My little girl outs me regularly but no one seems to catch it. lol she sings all the pagan songs from when we are circle...no matter where we are. so most people don't listen...unless they are pagan then they smile.

I know how you feel I have had to make my son who is 7 not to repeat anything of wicca/pagan things at the school, I work a little Chrstopagan mix with my Buddha and Native American works and my son goes to a church who is a little openminded but my father who is not I tell my son to not try to correct anyone at the church and not to tell anything to his grandfather. >.< My mother and a few on her side know but my dad's side is very Christian. It is very hard for children to keep quiet.

Greetings and merry meet,

I am new to this site. I cannot express in words how overjoyed I am this site exists. I have been a student of The Arts since I was in my late teens. As a mother, I am finding it difficult sometimes to raise the children with our beliefs without it causing problems in the public school system. If anyone can offer any advice, it would certainly be appreciated. *hopes this is not a repeat question, if it is, my sincerest apologies*

Merry Meet all,
I am new to this group, but not new to the Craft, or this site. I have a unique position as I am a Pagan parent (me and my wife), and I also teach the Craft to several children. Some of my fellow Pagans have asked me to teach their children along with mine. We have 7 children in one group (going for about 2 years), and 4 in the other group we just started. We even have three of the mothers learning (my wife, or one of the other parents handle them). I joined this group hoping to get some more ideas for crafts and lessons for the children. I already frequent 'Broomstix', and 'PookaPages'; and own Amber K's coloring and crafts book. Anything more would be helpful and very appreciated. Btw, I live in South Florida, so if you're interested you can leave me a message on my page.

Hi I am a mother of a 7 year old I live with my boyfriend who is not the father but I am struggling how to make my son pay attention to what I am teaching him of the concepts of the craft and sometimes he plays with his wand more than pay attention to what I am trying to show him even though I try to make it fun and interesting >.< I guess I need a little extra help he has been deemed ADHD so I guess it makes sense.
