wisdom from the past to think about

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Hello all! I just joined the group and i'm eagerly looking forward to talking a little politics.

For the record, i'm not officially affiliated with any political party, but i consider myself a Libertarian. That being said....

Did anyone here attend the tea tax rallies? I did and met other Pagans. According to the encyclopedia of tax revolts this phenomena of opposing oppressive taxes has been going on for over 4000 years. One can find issues that you can make common cause with SOME conservative Christians.

Yes, I did watch the film and it was quite well done. As for my view of what is called conspiracy theory I would direct you to a famous pagan libertarian writer who who wrote several books on the subject including the Illuminatus Trilogy, Robert Anton Wilson. While he found them fascinating there is a danger in that obsessing with them gives them a power over you. You can become paranoid and mistrust people who can be potential allies. Those who are involved in fighting evil and sickness without respite for themselves can find themselves becoming simular to what they are fighting in order to mirror that power. So even if you win you lose by becoming like them.
I speak as a person who has been active since the 60's, written about in 4 books and has done great social change magick. I also think highly of Ron Paul, who was a hero of Alex Jones who made the documentary. I worked on Paul's campaign in 1988.
To avoid burnout or going to the dark side I indulge in humor, music, science fiction and fantasy and pagan gatherings. Focus of the world that you want and you will find the spiritual space that will allow it to happen. The opposite is also true. The clearer vision that allows for others to obtain what they want will win.
I actually enjoy politics as a way of exchanging vision and energy. If you are angry about the bailout and the takeover of the economy by Bush/Obama go to many of the anti tax rallies next month. The American Revolution started as a tax revolt and had overwhelming pagan iconography. All of you send some magick and prayer that these voices of freedom will be heard. Thank you

To introduce myself I am friendly with libertarians, anarchists, greens and SOME conservatives and liberals. I am currently doing research on the pagan iconography of political change and it seems that all the icons used in the American Revolution were all Pagan. I am interested in that and learning how all of you combine your spiritual practices into your politics?
