Do you have one? How did you find your patron, or did they find you?

Quick question Joe; do you think Anu can be identified with Morrigan?

I found mine, or rather my top patron found me! He made sure I knew He owned me. I have some other patrons besides Tlaloc... Mainly Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca, Itzpapalotl, & Xolotl.

Theres so many gods, I look forward into devolaping relationships with all of 'em.

See, but that isn't very Celtic. Maiden, Mother, Crone is all modern conceptions not ancient Celt ones.

According to the left over source about the conqoured Celts... Anann/Anu is identified as Morrigan and is sometimes included in the Morrigan triad with Badb & Macha. [Ref: R. A. Stewart Macalister. Lebor Gabála Érenn. Part IV. Irish Texts Society, Dublin, 1941. § VII, First Redaction.] We know Badb & Macha aren't Morrigan herself, so that leaves only Anann to be identified as Morrigan. After all you can't have "the Morrigan" w/out Morrigan.

Hi, Michele here, new to the site. My path is Sumerian, and believe me when I say that I did not actively seek them, they definitely found me! As for Patron or Matron, my path doesn't work like that; we have a personal god/dess, but They all have a voice when They have something to say. Different gods teach me about different things. Since I am a magician, it's usually Enki talking to me. For those who don't know, he's sort of a Coyote/Loki/Cernunos.

Are you following the no worshipping foreign gods too?

IDk if you're a recon or not. but I got some sites for you about the Sumerian thing if you're interested.

All gods are welcome. I'm not recon. The ancient Mesopotamian religions were living religions, which means that they changed and adapted along with their society. When I read the myths, I try and see how the messages fit into my life, in the here and now.

I'll take a look at the other Sumer sites, if you'd like to send them. I have found, though, that most other Sumer temples are either Wiccan based, Canaanite based, or Necro-Sitchen based. Free will, and all, but I have no interest in anything that doesn't come from the myths. Necro and Sitchen are B-S, Sumer and Canaan were no where near each other, and the Wiccan format just doesn't fit what the Sumerians did. Wiccans, don't take that as a negative; it's just a fact. No calling down the lord and lady, no drawing circles, no calling quarters, and the element-directions are a little different.

Welp, I have good news for you. (I feel yeh on the Wiccan thing, when I studied Celtic recon stuff I got alot of that crap too.) This is a total recon site that IS based on mythology.

The only thing about the foreign god rule I can tell you, is that the Sumerian did *not* adapt foreign gods and their gods aren't fond of them. Although the only one that seems to be tolerant of foreign deities is Inanna according to alot of people.

This is Temple of Sumer that a friend of mine made. Theres not a shred of Neopaganism (he thinks alot of Neopaganism is a load of bull) and since he despises the Canaanites he has none of that too. I suggest checking out the entire compelled myths of Inanna he put all togather that puts all the events in Chronological order. From Gilgamesh to the Descent.

Although I do believe the Sumerians had contact with the Canaanites because he was telling me how much they hated eachother. And the Hebrews were Sumerian for along time, which is also contact.

We have another site, since you're after myths. Here is the forum Enenuru which is devoted to Mesopotamian studies (not specifically religion only) and we cover alot of Sumerian ways of doing things etc.

Thanks. Temple of Sumer looks interesting. This is one of the things that sets me apart from recon groups. I can say that I don't do the whole demon thing; I don't believe in them. I believe that we are responsible for our own actions, not some outside force. If you read the rites of excorsism (I can never spell that word!), they describe a cleansing as though cleansing of germs. I see demons as germs.

And in the Descent, we see that the gods refused to help Inanna because they knew the rules of the Underworld -no one returns. There was a status quo for the Underworld. If you came out, you had to replace yourself within. This is why the gallu followed Inanna out until she found a replacement. No vampires, no returns. I personally have past-life memories, as well as a near death experience, so I DO believe in returning. In the form of a new life, not zombies or vampires and such. I recommend Jacobson's Treasures of Darkness.

I don't mix my pantheons when in ritual, and I don't go to other pantheons to ask something of their gods. It isn't that I believe that my gods would disapprove, I just feel a difference in energy and I feel that it would be rude to my gods.

And the Sumerians and Canaanites didn't like each other because the Sumerians were not Semitic. Sumerians had issues with all the Semites -the Semitic tribes were always invading!

This is actually off topic, so we can start a new topic, if you'd like. And my website is www.babylon-rising.com.

Personally, I don't think the modern Sumerians believe that demons cause everything. I certainly don't. I do believe they can make people ill and etc, I just don't buy that they cause everything because they do not obviously.

Hey this is a nice site. Mind if I post it on Enenuru? Obviously you have th correct references for what you're doing.

Since you're a Asherah fan, I'd suggest the Hebrew Goddess by R.Patai if you haven't picked it up yet.

I'm going to start a topic here if you don't mind, seeing as Mesopotamian religions are polytheistic.
