Yes, I'm very picky about what I read on this subject. Most of my bookshelf has university-taught books. I tend to slam anyone who attempts to equate that Necro and Sitchen nonsense with the Sumero-Babylonian myths. Talk about deities taken out of context!
And for books, Samuel Noah Kramer is the father of Sumerian translations, Thorkild Jacobson's "Treasures of Darkness" is an absolute MUST for anyone on a priest or magician path. For the advanced, Kramer's "Myths of Enki", Dina Katz "Netherworld", Abusch's "Mesopotamian Witchcraft", Mark Cohen's "Cultic Calenders of the Ancient Near East", and James Pritchard's "Ancient Near Eastern Texts".
