Review/Gist.

Larklight by Phillip Reeve. First in the Larklight series, followed by Starcrossed and Mothstorm.

Larklight is a space adventure set in the mid-1800's. The first book is about the house Larklight which is in deep earth orbit beyond the moon. Queen Victoria reigns in England as well as it's colonies: America, a few moons of Jupiter, and a failed colony on Venus.
Steam powered automaton butlers, space pirates, giant space spiders, and lots of good old adventure.

It is a young adult series but the read is very fun and quick without excessive gore, it is partially illustrated but I found it enhancing the story rather then hindering, the strong language is dashed '--' to save fine British gentlefolk from hearing it, and the heavier plot is in the background (politics, morals, and all the gunk that bogs down 'adult' fiction).

I am a very slow reader, being slightly dyslexic, but I finished the first two in a few hours and the third in a couple of days due to interruptions. I recommend this book and the following two for anyone who likes a good read, steampunk addicts or otherwise.

The author Phillip Reeve also wrote The Hungry City Chronicles which is another Young Adult Series. I had a bit of trouble finding the books outside of the library but the town I live in only has a Walden's Bookstore and a second hand bookstore. If nothing else, hit the stacks and fall back in love with your library, be it quaint or colossal.

Larklight eh? Whats the general gist of it? If you can say so without giving too much away. I've been looking for something read lately...as the latest Terry Brook's novel just kinda was really meh to me. I swear...he waits 12 years to put out a book in his Landover series...and its a freaking teen angst novel? Where you pretty much end up hating the main character? Gah. I admit, I only got about halfway into it before tossing it across the room...but still. Aaand yeaah.../endrant

Look up Larklight by Phillip Reeve. It's in the young adult section but it is a fun read.

Well guys, just found out a little tidbit of information. Abney Park (a greak steampunk-themed band) is going on tour. Check out here to get some more information: http://www.abneypark.com/

And on a very happy note, I will hopefully(wish me luck) attending the show in Tampa! I'll be vacationing in Florida at the same time they are performing there and its looking like I will be able to go. Talk about great coincidences!

I made another steampunk gear graphic and stuck it on some t-shirts on one of my Cafepress sites, so, just for grins:
