And into the Kitchen we go.

I've decided to find kitchen poems and prayers to be a way to welcome people into the group. Most seem to come from a Christian point of view, but I can live with that if you can. ;P

That should read "BUT fiction is where my heart lies." Typos, the bane of the writer...

To Learning! Keep us posted on your journey through nursing and 'doctorhood' (is that a word?). I've decided to take time off from school for a while. I have too many degrees already! LOL I'm working on becoming a novelist right now - have a couple non-fiction books published by fiction is where my heart lies. I have stories to tell, but then, don't we all?

You should go back. I had to really juggle time but thanks to online classes at the local colleges I found that I only need to be on campus maybe an hour 2 days a week. You can work it. It will be hard for a few months but the benefits are great rewards afterward. Here is to learning.

Definitely. I've occasionally thought about becoming a compounding pharmacist. They're few and far between these days. A small town about 20 miles north of me still has one, and he'll be retiring one of these days. Don't know if I'm up to going back to school (again!) on top of everything else I do, but I'm really fascinated by the idea. Compounding pharmacists are what all pharmacists used to be - they made up the medicine, from scratch, according to the doctor's prescription. I just think that would be loads of fun, and help people, too.

I have thought about D.O's but like N.D's they don't have the clout that an M.D does. Pathetic I know. But I think you can balance this well. My Grandfather once removed who I had 9 glorious years with was a doctor. He made his own medications for people. He really gave me my first start in this. Really made me think and learn. He always told me that though we are made of the same parts we are all very different. I really think that Big Pharma is controling way to much and we need doctors who aren't afraid to take a different path or at least a more balanced path.

Hi Goldencougarwolf - I'm not offended. You'd have to be trying pretty hard to offend me, and even then you might not succeed :-)

I just work hard to keep people educated, and there's still a big gulf between conventional and alternative medicine in this country. I think it's great you want to be an M.D. It is possible - difficult, but still possible - to be an M.D. in the U.S. and maintain an open mind toward alternative methods. We have a great family doctor as well as a great pediatrician, both M.D.s, who are well-versed in alternative as well as conventional methods, and do a good job deciding which is right for different situations.

Have you considered becoming a D.O. instead of an M.D.? In the U.S. (boy, that's a lot of abbreviations LOL) D.O.s have the same licensing, practices and hospital privileges as M.D.s but their training is more 'open-minded.' My favorite local gynecologist is a D.O.

And Dee, that just goes to show that everyone's body is different - isn't it funny that soy would make my symptoms worse and make yours better? Go figure.

Soy has helped with the night-sweats. They have backed off in the last year. I started 8 years ago myself. I stopped sugar, red meat, cut back on chocolate(:~),pasta, and only eat w.w.bread or corn bread.I also stopped coffe and do only Tea.Hot black for breakfast and green cold. I will go to the web-site. Peace Out )o(

Sorry Laura I didn't mean to offend you. I was just listing what is in the medical text. There is a big difference in what you learn as a N.D and as a medical person. In order to be a nurse and eventually get my M.D license I have to learn their way. I don't like their way but I have to know it. I am glad you became a N.D. I thought about that here but they aren't really given the same break as doctors are. As an M.D. I will be able to do other things that you can't. I think it sucks and I know N.D's here in this state that are fighting for the same rights as M.D's. I hope you join their fight. I hope you the best. We can all learn from one another.

I meant to add - you never know what might be causing your symptoms or making them worse. I've had the standard collection of menopause symptoms for about 8 years now. The hot flashes were starting to wake me up at night. At the time we were consuming a lot of soy because we thought my husband had a dairy allergy (turns out he can have organic dairy with no side effects but not conventional dairy - go figure). When we went back to dairy and stopped with the soy milk, soy cheese, tofu, etc. my hot flashes and headaches went away. Poof. You could have knocked me over with a feather, since soy is touted as being great for menopause. Obviously, in my case it's not. So you never know what might help. Maybe try meditating or listening to your intuition as to what you might try?
