witchcraft is an art of many faces true it was simplistic and animalistic and very cultural however it had stages, the gypsy/old womanly voice, the temple and the priestess role, and the 10th century witch....all of which was based around the female model....but with both male for female as a guide, however in most it was a womanly image as the voice....(only from the Occult study of the 15th-17th century was it changed and added to the structure of the male/priestly mysteries of the 3 cultures) and it was by jealous nature that male members unworthy of their own magic(k) designs was recreating the system to make themselves the head....of which they by the nature of the divine could not......
