Another interesting thing about Spiderwort is anytime it has lots of moisture(just after a rain)you can touch the flower and often wind up with a dropof blue ink on your fingers. This also happens when the flowers are crushed.

Spiderwort

Greetings new Friends! I can answer the spiderwort question.
Spiderworts are late spring/early summer prarie wildflowers. They are usually a delicate blue but hybrids often occur in the wild and they are nursery grown now and come in all sorts of colors.
They spread quickly and tend to take over a flowerbed when given care. They devide easily so you can share with friends when they spread.
Break the tip off a spiderwort leaf and wait for a drop of sap to appear, then touch it with your fingertip and notice how far you can stretch a thread of sap. This resemblance to a spider's silk may explain where its name came from. The gooey quality of the sap definitely explains its familiar nickname of "cow slobber"! While you are up close, look at the long purple hairs on the stamens!

The stems, leaves and flowers of spiderworts are edible. The herbage may be eaten raw or added to stews. The flowers (which may be either pink, blue or rose-purple) make an attractive edible garnish for salads.
They may also be easily propagated from stem cuttings or seeds.
The amazing part of this plant is that the stamen hairs turn from blue to pink in the presence of nuclear radation. So keep your eye on the spiderwort! Isn't the goddess amazing!Bright Blessings, Sadiemoon

Hello everyone
I have a son who has the most amazing green thumb (unlike me!)
He wants to start a veggie garden and I thought it would be good to start teaching him about herbs and their properties etc
Looking forward to learning lots here :)

Hello everyone and merry meet all.
I'm new to the site, but I do love the great outdoors and gardening. Don't have much of a garden at the moment since we are renovating, but we do have a lot of weeds! anyway, i'm looking for ideas and suggestions or things others have done as i am planning on moving out soon and buying my own place. then i plan on having a big garden and lots of pets =D

This is comment for Sage. There is absolutelt no reason to say goodbye to those plants all 3 of them can be grown quite well in containers. The mint especially.

Ciao, I'm new to the space and to this group. I've never gardened before - at least not outside - but I'm willing to give it a go. Recently purchased some rosemary, stevia and rue. Already have spiderwort.
