Going through the threads I see that Bucca has only been mentioned a few times, and only one real thread was created in discussion, I thought we could discuss it further if you wouldn’t mind and go into some of the imagery of Bucca and some of the difference of opinions that I have encountered.

Grand Bucca—or Bucca Gam some call, is the Sabbatic Goat of the Witches, the resolver of dualities between male and female, Light and Dark, life and death, and so on, and a divine androgyny/hermaphrodite which is quite interesting because sometimes goats are born hermaphrodites.

Most, but not all, agree on this representation of Bucca Gam.

Bucca Dhu—sometimes called the Devil, the Dark God and sometimes Bucca Boo, Bucca dhu is associated with all the workings of spirit communication, blasting, inner worlds, emotions, mind control and dark defensive magic (a shallow interpretation but you get my point). It is actually believed because Bucca dhu is often times worked with more in the sense of Traditional Craft because most wise-women and cunning-men who’s magic often involves the assistance of spirits, controlling and inner-world that the idea of Bucca dhu was the Devil. There are some controversy as well as to what times Bucca dhu rules, simply put Bucca dhu rules the dark months, some of the most common interpretations and followings is from Allentide to May Eve. Bucca black is also associated with the dark side of the moon.

Bucca Gwydder—often called the fair god, and may be invoked by the cunning folk for workings of generative magic, protection, fair weather and nourishing rains. The White Bucca is commonly associated with the full moon. The White Bucca rules the light part of the year, some say May’s Eve to Allentide.

Now this is where the imagery of the Bucca dhu vs Bucca gwydder tend to conflict. Many people interpret them very differently, and I have found that many argue over it. I would rather NOT we fight over something like this, but talk/discuss your thoughts and opinions on the imagery of these three.

Some say that Bucca dhu is the “male” aspect, and therefore a God, and some say that Bucca gwydder is the “female” aspect, and therefore a Goddess. I would like to discuss this, I haven’t ran into to many sources that claims one to be a Goddess and the other a God.

The other topic that often comes up is the idea of Bucca dhu and Bucca gwydder being the same entity. What are your thoughts, opinions and/or beliefs?

Bucca Gam is a hermephradite, not Bucca Gwydder and Bucca Dhu, or at least my understanding of these two is that they are not, however I could be very wrong.

I had to go look up Bucca. From what I read they are like the Puka that my dad taught me about, but Puka was like fairies that could shapshift and could either help or hinder you as they pleased. Folks would leave them offerings so that they would like you and help instead of hinder.
