Thanks for the info. I knew about rennet and always look for that on a label if I'm seriously shopping for vegan cheese.

Hi Mona,
I have eaten soy cheese but am not that fond of it. I like the veggie single slices, they are cruelty free, kind of junky but are fun on bread with lettuce, tomato, avocado, and soy mayo.
I follow a mostly vegan diet and will bend to vegetarian food.
Yes, I eat cheese in moderation.
Google, rennet free cheeses and you will have great success in finding cruelty free cheese in your local health food store!
The soy cheeses are interesting/ strange!
Rennet is made from cow's stomach lining. UGH.
All the best to you Mona.
Smiling your way,
Whitecat

So do you eat cheese at all or just soy cheese? I really don't like that. I want real cheese but cruelty free.

if the cheese has rennet in it is not vegetarian.
Rennet free cheese is readily available; most are organic, cruelty free to an extent. One must do their research however because cows that are factory raised often are subjected to uncomfortable situations.
Same with Range Free Chickens; they are still cooped up and often keep in close quarters.
I commend you for being a vegetarian; this is good work!
Here's an image of my good friend Michelle who works for Farm Sanctuary, you can go to their site and find out the facts.

I am vegetarian, not vegan. I eat eggs from a local farmer where the chickens are not "cooped" up. My problem is cheese. I don't really like soy cheese, although I love soy milk. I can buy cheese from a health food store but how do I know it is cruelty free? I actually called a farm that produces "organic" cheese and the lady said the cows get out in pasture and are treated well, again, not cooped up. How do I know this if the farm is out of state and I can't get there to visit? Even though it's fattening, I love cheese! Any suggestions?

Hello! I recently interviewed author of Witch in the Kitchen Cait Johnson for an article about Pagan vegetarians. There's an intro article as well.

hello all! I'm relatively new to vegetarianism (only been one since january) but I love it! I'm slowly but surely adapting a vegan lifestyle.

Mona: I had been vegetarian for over 20 years and after pregnancy was diagnosed hypoglycemic/pre-diabetic. even a low glycemic vegetarian diet didn't help. what did? going raw vegan. now i can eat fabulous raw desserts and my blood sugar is completely at normal levels. watch this trailer for the film simply raw: reversing diabetes in 30 days

this film completely transformed my life!

Have you seen the on-line movie www.earthlings.com? If that isn't enough to make someone a vegetarian, I don't know what is!

I have been a vegetarian all of my adult life; made the decision before I was twenty; I am fast approaching the half century mark this November.
I hope and pray for the day when we as humans put and end to animal cruelty/suffering.
Love, and light Mona!
