Viking Group

November 4, 2008.

Here is group for developing a better understanding of the Vikings and who they were, or if you have Viking ancestry or possible Viking ancestry you can discuss that too. Some things I have learned about the Vikings, is that they were not all raiders, a lot of them were traders who traveled in thier ships. A lot of them were not barbaric looking, they kept themselves clean, among viking artifacts that were found were Viking combs, so they kept themselves clean and combed their hair. I suppose though when they were at sea or in battle they could have looked uncleaned and their hair not comb. Those horned helmets were only used for ceremonies, and they ordinarily did not wear those type of helmets except for ceremonies, they had other types of Viking helmets they wore. Many Vikings were not big and tall, it was the high ranking Vikings who were up to six and a half feet tall. The lower Ranking Vikings were of average or smaller heigth this probably was do to poorer nutrition because many of them were at slave status, being slaves to the higher ranking Vikings. I traced one line of my Swedish ancestors back to the 1500's to an Island where they lived in Sweden called "Sollerön" translated it means "Island of the sun". On this Island they have found about 100 to 150 Viking graves which date back to about the years of 800 to 1050. I think they may have found things like Viking Swords there also. I am wondering if those Vikings burried there were my ancestors. The Swedish Vikings went Eastward and into Russia. The Danish and Norwegian Vikings went to places around England and around the U.K. and other places like Normandy.
I'll add more here when I have more time. This is enough for now to get this started.

@brockenhexe

we had the traditional finnish juhannus / summer solstice
with traditional wood heated sauna and good ale.
it was so rainy, that we skipped the bonfire - but usually we would have done that either in the village 12km away, or in our own court. (i live on an old farm, we have plenty wood as we heat with that mainly)

Its now 24 hrs bright outside, and our cocks and chickens act a bit confused .-)

Greetings zool,
Danke fuer das Kompliment. Remember the old saying: "You are as old - or young - as you feel." As long as you keep your brain alive, the body has to follow suit. Not always willingly, age tries to take its toll. But the only thing to do then is: Never give up.
I wish you a happy Summer Solstice. A day when I remember the Jonannisfeuer we had, dancing around them. Then when the embers starting to just glow, jumping over them, rolling firewheels down the mountain paths. A good memory.
Blessings,
Brockenhexe

Believe me, I am eighty-five years old and still learning.
It is great that you found an Apache teacher. North from where I live is an Apache Reservation.
My way here was to start learning T'ai Chi. First as exercise, then from a Chinese teacher as martial art. In four years of learning Chi Gung I learned to work with Chi. I use it now as well as Metaphysics.
My motto is: The day I do no longer want to learn something new-is the day life loses its meaning.

All is well between us. No worries here. I admit that I probably exuded a tone of defensiveness and I am sure you understand that many, having uttered what you did, were trying to go to a place of far greater confrontation than you were so thanks for clearing that up.

It is possible that the video spoke a great deal more to me as someone who discovered his shamanic path with the help of First Nations peoples of the Americas. Lately, at the prompting of an amazing Apache teacher, I have been seeking to embrace the ancestral magick in my own DNA (descendants n ancestors) and be heathen. As far as how earth energies work and my relationship with the natural world go, I am as far along in that path as can be expected for a forty-two year old man but I look forward to a great deal of learning about my own predecessors.
