"i am a viking" - most of the comments refer to bloodlines, and descent.
Some refer to the historic past, however - nobody has said
"i climb into my dragon boat and invade gilligans island in the name of odin and "the vikings""
- the vikings is a name that outsiders have given to a group of people , i doubt they have ever called themself viking during their time. correct me if i am wrong.
...oh, and put that gun down, it looks childish :)
Bloodlines and descent won't help as the vikings are extinct. There's no such thing as a 'viking' anymore. The term you're looking for, if you're only going to focus on descent, is "norse". There's no such thing as a viking-bloodline.
And they did call themselves vikings, to the outsiders they were known as "norsemen". The word "viking" was reserved, and this is important, to people who went overseas to loot and plunder - equal to the word "pirate". A farmer was not a viking. So unless you do climb into your dragon-boat - you're not a viking.
noted your opinion as what it is, your opinion.
thank you for your input although i disagree to a certain extend.
however, it look s of course a bit ridiculous if people make desperate attempts to find some 1% "norse" blood in their genealogy and suddenly they feel all nordic:-)
however, the neandertaler is exctinct - the viking is no race, and as such cannot be extinct. the vikings are the forefathers of real people still alive in iceland, scandinavia and some places in england.
in terms of bloodline - there is no extinction.
you could argue that they have mixed their blood with natives wherever they settled
but that is true for every agressive settlers, including cortez, columbus and the americans who raped the native indians if they not killed them.
If you bring the scientific term of "extinction" onto the table - then it displayes a certain level of ignorance towards science indeed.

in terms of spirituality - after all this is a pagan place
the religious practises are still alive or revitalized
against heavy catcholic odds.
the sapmi preserved their shamanism, the finnish rediscover theirs from the kalevala, others from the epic edda and above and amongst it all the asatru
and their runes.
I wrote earlier that I didn't know why the Viking Pantheon chose me as I am not a true native of the North...
However, I received clearly the answer tonight when I opened by chance a page of a book by Kveldulf Gundarsson called Teutonic Magic.
the answer was right there; it said the Viking Gods choose those who try to be strong and try to help themselves and are not sheep...
I guess after 20 years of trying to do this, maybe that is why.

I hear Viking and an image of my family pops into my head. Long hair and sleeve tattoos that like to have a good time...but means something different than just that to me. Comradery in arms/village and surviving on what is given, while having a good time...sleeve tattoos and harley optional, mandatory in my family. All good people, but dont get on their bad side.
