Just a short note of introduction. My heritage seems to be Irish Viking, not sure before that. As Vikings raided traded and settled all over the know world, the settled Dublin and had a big impact on the Emerald Isle. Family legend has the King of Ireland creating our clan from Vikings to protect them.I live in Toronto, Canada and have found an outlet for my inner Viking with torvik.org. We are a local chapter of Vikings Canada. Vikings Canada is an International Chapter of Vikings UK ... the largest group of Living History Vikings in the world.I joined for the Live steel combat and began enjoying the learning and living the way of the Vikings. I scour used bok stores for anything viking and devour any information I can on the subject.Within our group we have Norwegians, Scots, Irish, Russian and Germans whom all feel the tug of Viking Heritage. Looking forward to getting to know the crew here.

I have no idea if I am of Viking descent - but my Papa was Swedish, by all accounts, was born in Sweden and came to America where he was hired out to the DuPont family on the Eastern shore of Maryland as a child. My mother's maiden name was Anne Axilena Anderson - after her Aunt - can't get much more Swedish than that...
I don't really know much more about my ancestry than that - well, some names, but those are immediate family, I don't even know my grandfather's name on Papa's side because he wouldn't have anything to do with him after he abandoned them to the DuPonts.
Any ideas on tracking one's heritage?

I am Scotch-Irish in ancestry. My clan is the Elliott (Alfvaldr) from the Border Rievers on my fathers side. On my mothers side the ancestry is Greek via Sweden from the DNA results they got. I have always been drawn to Nordic culture but assumed I was just Greek-Irish. I started doing research and found that my ancestry is Norse.

some debate over the word viking ... man of the bay .. pirate ... raider ,
Viking was a Job and touched a of the known world. DNA links all over the place.
If you feel the call of the longboats there might be a Viking somewhere back there.

My ancestry is very mixed but I don't know for sure that i have Viking descent. It is confusing for me because I am born in UK, but I feel always drawn to the Norse Gods and Goddesses and I would like to move to Scandinavia.
I don't know why I have this longing - but I do!

Just start looking into the History of England from 750 till 1066 and you may understand the call of the Battle Horn better, happy hunting.

Thanx Jim i will....But...I was born in the UK but my genetic heritage isn't British ...!! It is mixture of Persian, Middle Eastern, Russian and Polish.. is there any link there? I doubt it...?

Persian, Middle Eastern, Russian and Polish

There was a HUGE viking influence in Russia, RUS in Russia was a description of Red Haired and Bearded Vikings who "civilized the country and trade roues to the middle east. The more you learn of the Vikings you begin to see what a big influence the were and are to this day. For example Vikings held the First Parliment.

Put myself on the general board with this introduction...excusez..

Introducing myself too late...I do not have any Viking blood, but I do not get seasick and like the food and the humor. To be honest I am in it for the fun.
The book I used to teach myself how to read was some sort of EDDA for Soldiers fighting in WWII, my alternatives regarding books were Bible and Fairy Tales. So I chose my biggest influence. No wonder I am here!
