I've been slowly reading & learning about my Ancestors in Norway.. I know I have a lot to learn.. this morning my hubby had the history station on.. the subject caught my attention because it was about the story of Beowulf .. In the show it was said that there has been some archeological discoveries uncovered .. in the area where the..story of Beowulf was said to take place.. such as a longhouse in the same area as described in Beowulf..
Also swords and other artifacts found by archeologists were found to be physically simiar in appearence to descriptions of these in the ancient story of Beowulf..
Thought this was interesting that the Sagas may be a combination of fact with fiction..
Hi... FatherJPVampyr.. Thanks for your comment.. I also believe many Myths are based in fact.. It was some time ago but I remember the History Channel also doing a show about the Story of Heracles.. also being based on a real person..I'm currently reading The Prose Edda by Snorri Sturluson.. I'm a scattered reader don't read from front to cover.. to me.. in the Prologue of this book it reads as though Odin was a mortal.. coming from Troy/ Turkey.. and journing to Northern Europe ..I'm a history nut so I find this interesting...Kim

what F J P C V guys said.
most of these sagas have a reason.
in finland you find music instruments described in the 3000 year old kalevala saga
still beeing played and designed like it. (google, or youtube for "kantele")
but of course old runes of kalevala or chapters of the edda
are not always ment to be interpreted 1:1 like some holywood trash want us to believe.
a god can be a synonym, like mother earth is visualised in various forms to be understood and grasped by us better...
valhal was the afterlife, and nobody has ever seen nidhoggur life in the form as it was painted in the edda - but they were not airclouds either...
