So maybe this is to mundane to ask a group of outcasts, but how do people feel about fat? Now of course we are all going to start with the fact that we really don't care what somone looks like, blah, blah, blah. While for friendship I do agree that pagans are far less likely to care, what about mating purposes? I guess what I'm really trying to find out is, how we feel about the fact that 30% of US citizens are obese and it is spreading. I have a particular intrest in body image and obesity since I have weighed much more that I was suppose to most of my life. In fact I have only been with in my weight range for 4 years during my life time.

I also have an issue with the fact that for me to go from 220 lbs to 130lbs for 4 years that I had to exercise 6 days a week for 3 or 4 hours a day and eat almost 1200-1400 calories a day. Do people who are thinner find themselves working this hard to maintain their weight? I'm just curious. I don't believe the majority of them do. Don't get me wrong, I think that US citizens as a whole need to exercise more often and eat healthier food, but our society is not really set up for that. Plus with the way the economy is now it is a lot more difficult. While it is difficult; it is not impossible. How much time a week do you feel is appropriate for you to give up from the craft, family, and friends, to have an exercise regimne?

Thanks for your responses and I'm sorry if you believe this is trivial issue.

i've never been fat nor skinny. i'd *love* to be skinny, but, really, i just don't see myself working that hard. as i get older, i'm sure i will gain weight. my biggest concern with that is being able to afford new clothing! really, there are *so* many different body types for men and women and so many different tastes. you just need to find a way to be comfortable with yourself. try to feel good physically and try to dress in such a way that you feel comfortable and pretty.

I am very concerned about the fact that as a society we are getting fatter. We as a society seem to be taking less responsiblity for our selves, less discpiline in all areas. IMO it takes alot of discipline to get into a healthy lifestyle, making conscistant healthy choices, (esp when we are bombarded with false information about what is healthy and what is the "ideal"0 But I will say that the initial disciple pays off over a relitively short time. I make conscious choices, for what I do with my body, eating and using it. It is very hard for people who have not ever had to disciple themselves to stop their behaviors, but by properly educating your self about our food we will be better able to make honest, conscious choices.
I personally find it hard to not get a bad attitude towards heavy people. I find it very humbling and honest when I examine my feelings towards people, I know that people want to be healthy and that they often do not know how any more to do that, I do my best to model behanviors and attitudes that I find healthy for me, in hopes that others may get empowered, motivated, inspired to be the best they can be. Yes I am a skinny person, but I do make my self that way, I could sit around watching tv, eating "crappy" foods, stuffing my thougths and emotions, byut I work each moment every day to not, and it gets easier and easier each moment to not do unhealthy behaviors.....

cmming from someone outside US and never had waight problems, you might discard my comment but... i do have friends who have the problem, and from the visual point of view i don't really care what people look like. thing is, if you're overweight or underweight you are more likely to have health problems, not to mention other issues as they are far less important. and that is why i'm concerned about a friend of mine who is the same height as me but has 25-30kg more than me. there are differnt types of metabolism, genetic disposition and hormonal disorders that make some people more susceptible to gain weight, but then for your health's sake try to find out what it is that makes you gain weight and try to avoid such food. exercise is good regardless of the weight. here we have some kind of immune system tests that tell you if you're sensitive to some types of food, not eally allergic, but such food can cause you either gain weight much faster, or cause all kinds of problems.
i was in US for only 2 weeks, but i saw your food to be different from what we have here, and i guess that type of fast food you're offered combined with the way of life, when you don't have time to eat properly, may be the cause that you have more overweight people, although i have not seen so many while i was there. but you're offered so many sweet stuff, and then lots of grease is used in food and that's not only causing you gain weight but all sorts of other health problems.
it's not a trivial issue, and the health is the first thing you need to think about so you're not taking time off anything else because if you get ill you won't be doing anything not to mention it will make youre family and friends even worse that when you leave them for an hour to do some exercise. you should walk at least 30 min a day for healthy circulation, and add at least 30min exercise plus healthier diet, you should maintain your weight. if not, try seeing if you have some type of metabolic or hormonal disorder as those can really mess you up.
remember, yoyu're beautiful whatever you look like, don't be obsessive, but think clearly about what makes you healthy. you have to be comfortable in your body, some types will be fine with couple of kg more or less, you just need to be careful that it doesn't affect your physical condition.

well first off ... be healthy ... weight isn't an option... keep healthy habits..

but to answer your question...

weight can be determined by bone structure metabolism etc.
my buddy eats a lot more than me... but cine i have a bigger bone structure and a slower metabolism i'm a Lil over weight... ohh and if your taller you are gonna have a lil more weight cuz your bone are bigger..

but dont worry about your weight... be comfortable with yourself and someone will come =D

As without, so within. It's better to be comfortable, there within your skin.

That is very true. Sometimes our life struggles can affect the way we treat our bodies.

I would say a half hour a day and at a time when there will be absolutely no interruptions. I say this because I have 2 kids and a total of 6 people in my house lol. Try to write down a schedule for all of your activities and post it somewhere that you will always see it. Maybe your mirror or your bedroom door? Weigh your self once a week at the same day every week. Don;t weight yourself every week because this will only discourage you since women retain water and body weight can fluctuate by as much as 5 pounds! Also, keep in mind that at first you might gain weight because you are gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. I don't think it is trivial because looks are important to most people, especially women. Don't over do it because you won't want to stick with it. Something that was hard for me was to stop eating at night. I don't know if you have this problem but I know that by eliminating this pattern, it helps tremendously. While I am average in weight, I used to be very overweight so these things are what I've learned through trial and error over several years and I still struggle but with each year it becomes easier. I wish you the best of luck.
