How are you preparing for Samhain?

I wrote a little chant to read during my solitary celebration. It's a work in progress, and I've never worked with a group, so I don't know if it "measures up", but it came from the heart and I like it so far.

Bare skin against the bare night,
Bitter cold on a night of fright,
But I'll no shiver while I have delight,
Dancing around the fire light!

Caldron brewing herbs and spells,
Twisting athames and ringing bells,
Incense bathing heavenly smells,
Chanting ancient songs of Celts.

Shadows flicker, wax, and wain,
Arms circled to form the chain,
Spirits of our ancestors gain,
Greet the moon and blessed be Samhain!

Permalink Reply by Wolven Witch on October 27, 2009 at 12:20am: I like it, but Samhain doesn't rhyme, unless you pronounce it the way you spell it (I say Sow-win...) but that's just what I was taught. I like it none the less ^_^

I'm helping a friend set up her child's halloween party, and after we put the little munchkin to sleep we're having a circle in honour of Hecate. I'm honouring my hamster who passed away in April (dun laugh, I loved that little bundle of fur, he was a sweetheart!) and my two cats. I'm looking forward to having my first "group" ritual as well.

I'm hoping to sing some of my own chants and songs that I've written in front of others, I haven't shared many of my songs with anyone. Oh, and I might be going trick-or-treating too before hand since some of my friends are going, and I still look like I'm 12 lol.

Yeah, my pronounciations are mostly Americanized. I catch myself saying "a-thaim" instead of "a-tha-may" too. I am eclectic, never had a coven or lessons, so I probably get away with a few habits that most would find odd, haha.; ▶ Reply to This
