PaganSpace.net The Social Network for the Occult Community

Hello, All!

As a podcaster operating on a $0 budget, I've had to rely exclusively on the support of my listeners to keep my podcast going. While that has worked beautifully up 'til now (*huge* props to my listeners), I'm beginning to think that I may have exhausted their generosity and really, I feel horrible for asking them for money in the first place.

I've pondered utilizing a "monetizing" service like AdSense, but I've heard that the program doesn't actually start paying you until you've gotten $100 or more of clicks on their advertisements. A smaller website like my own isn't likely to generate that kind of cash in any reasonable amount of time and I'm also worried about the degree of control I would have over what kind of ads would get displayed on the website.

I've been trying to dig-up some sponsors for the show, but I'm really not sure how to go about it.

My goal here is not to make a profit. I didn't get into this to make money. I just want to make certain that the show can sustain itself since I don't really have the money to pay for its long-term upkeep.

Do any of you have any advice or experience in this sort of thing? I would really appreciate any bits of wisdom that you have to offer.

Bright Blessings!

I don't know that direct income is really viable for a Pagan podcast. I started mine (The Crooked Path) originally to promote my Craftwise DVDs, but in the end I now sell my DVDs - and also books, via Pendraig Publishing- to sustain my podcasting habit. So my advice is to find something tangible you can sell that makes sense to link to your podcast. A line of T-shirts from cafepress.com or zazzle.com can work if you have art, design or comedy skills. I've found that people tend to like to get something in their hands for the money they give, and I was never good at asking for donations anyway.

Or you could find a rich sponsor...

If it is any consolation, I recently had to invest in a dedicated server for my podcast, because my host company said I was getting too many simultaneous downloads. So now I'm shelling out a lot of money I never planned on doing, so I'm really glad the sales are doing alright for my products. I should point out that apart from announcing new releases, I don't make the podcast one big commercial for my products, though I do interview my authors, when they have something valid to say to my listeners. I know you can turn people off by peddling merchandise all the time

Bendith,

Peter
