Cool - good to hear from Jennifer and from Kali.
A question for the group, though - how important do you think it is to be tight to a specific period and how tight? Some faires allow fairy, vampire and pirate re-enactors/merchandise and others do not. What do you think are the outside parameters of a good faire?

Hello & Merry Meet!
New to the group. I've been a regular attendee at the Bristol Renaissance Faire in Kenosha, Wisconsin since 1992. My husband & I go at least once a year, in garb that we make ourselves. We start itching for Faire around March-April, living in agony until Faire starts in July. We have attended smaller 1-weekend local faires as well but Bristol is the only big one we go to. We've been wanting to try others in the Midwest but by the time we're done with Bristol funds are well depleted so we've been unable to check them out.

Hello! I'm new. I am a long time Ren devotee. I used to work BARF in largo, Fl (1995-2000) before moving to Gainesville for school. i now work with the Hoggetowne fair here.

Getting ready for our event October 9-11 in Newport News, Virginia. There was some debate about having a beribboned pole for dancing - it is not May, but other Faires include them throughout the year. Decided that since the ribbons are just an array of bright colors it will be OK to use in the sense that German towns still use the pole as a Civic event. Other than being seasonally anachronistic, does anyone think there is a problem with doing the dances other times of the year with a general audience?

Thats a good location for one - getting the Chicago crowds up for the weekend has to be a nice boost.

Yep the one at the IL/WI border is still open and doing very well. I went again last weekend and will be going for the final time this coming Sunday (23). It's the one thing I really look forward to all Summer.

The Chip-wa...falls WI ren was the one in trouble... they have cancelled all of 2009 and put the property up for sale. Which sold July 30th 2009 to new investors (who are selling shares)
Wish I had a couple extra$$
this was is nice little fest that my kids really enjoyed being able to roam around the realm in.
They expect to again open in May 2010 for a ren fest... and other fests as well through the season ending With a Holloween gig in October..... I hope so!

BTW the MN (@ Shakopee) will open this coming weekend--thru Oct4th!!!

I had thought the WI faire was in trouble - or was it one in Minnesota that was on the ropes? I know a few have been terminated due to financial issues or site issues. I am glad the WI one is continuing strong.
