The jaded experience of Paganism is extremely common for many serious Pagans who often find that, if anything, many Pagan circles can be even less satisfying than going to Church. At least at most Churches there is a sense that this means something to the people present, not that it's a game or performance threatre or an excuse to be lazy and dubiously ethical. In order to find a niche of serious spirituality and commitment to magic I was forced to create my own groups and carefully select members. After nearly ten years of jaded feelings about Paganism, having found that this spiritual path that meant so much to me meant so little to most others, thinking perhaps what I had seen was unavoidable, I joined a Vodou house, and in that house or in the community at large I have never been given reason to feel jaded. What is the difference between the two? They both have their origins in ancient tribal spirituality, the one primarily from Europe and the other primarily from Africa and Haiti, but ultimately in their origins not very different. The difference is that no one became a serious Vodouisant because they thought it was cool; no one became an instant guru by reading a Llewellyn book; no one joined simply because they thought that there were no rules, no expectations, no codes of ethics and morality; no one brings a modern Western and essentially Judeo-Christian mindset into it with them. I know wherefrom you come about feeling jaded. Trust me, there are better groups and individuals out there, though they can be hard to find. Since you're in Utah I recommend looking up a Mister Fionn o'Murchu. He's a PaganSpace member, older dude with long silver hair and is a founding member of Order of the Sons of the Merlin. He might be able to help you overcome some of these jaded feelings.
