Good morning Afaedah. Wow, winter in Alaska, not sure I could handle the days of darkness. I have problems with the short winter days here in a central part of Canada. Some say it is best to over light up your house in the winter. I have heard that some people even turn on a sun lamp in doors in the winter for a couple of hours each day. It is also good to take vitamin D in the winter as the sun is our bodys main source of this vitamin. Let me know how it goes for you this winter. Love and Blessings.
