- Very sad childhood, both parents alcoholic I would often witness my dad beat my mum to within an inch of her life. Alcohol made my mum go mad.
She tried to chop down my bedroom door with an axe. She was eventually put in a special hospital after I was discovered sleeping outside the house by police. I was very quite and almost withdrawn at school. I became a target of the school bullies.
Went through high school with awards for general science.
Became alcoholic, went through rehab. Joined 12 steps group of AA.
Attended "A course in miracles" every week for four years while caretaking the hosts property.
Enjoy playing blues on guitar and singing a few old folk/pop songs like

Wisdom and happiness, The beginning.

This is not so difficult, the simplicity is often overlooked however, if the student is ready the teacher will arrive. The sooner we learn to think with our hearts involved in the process, the sooner we will be much happier. Compassionate and forgiving thinking comes from the heart where the ego can not interfere unless we allow it. The head is where the ego thinking is generated, and with it comes resentment, pity, and pride.
With our heart doing some of the thinking, we begin to see that our friendships are more valuable than our money. Many people die loaded but sad, lonely, and tormented by the things money can not bye.
But it's not just happiness, we will also find that we know the difference between our wants and our needs in a much clearer light.
This is the beginning of wisdom. When you have all your needs met, such as company, food, shelter, and warmth. happiness is as simple as making up your mind you going to be happy just for today. Do it again tomorrow.
You will have some sadness occasionally, otherwise you would not know happiness was happiness, it would be par for the course, however, you will know how to pull yourself up by thinking LOVE with your heart.
Do it often, do it every day and your life will be transformed. That's a promise : ]
What can spoil things is stuff like fear, resentment, anger, lust, envy, pride, vanity. So I guess you could add humility to the list of ingredients for a great journey in life.
elicit drug use and excessive drinking play a big part in hampering growth, these should be avioded in excess or treated with a 12 step help program if repeated attempts at control fail.
