I'm wagering here that almost everyone here has gone through several "beginner" pagan books of various kinds, and that most of us are at least a little past them at this point. Unfortunately, many beginner books seem to repeat the same kinds of thin…

About Me:
I've been studying the occult since 1995, with particular emphasis on Chaos Magic and Hermetic Magic. I have occasionally given lectures on astrology and tarot, and once ran a seminar on ego magic. I also write essays on occult topics, and am looking for respected websites and magazine to publish them. The Witches' Voice is a wonderful vehicle to that end, but I'd prefer to get my work published by as many venues as possible.

My practice is three-fold. I have a magical practice, comprised of various Chaoist and Hermetic techniques. I follow a celebratory ritual schedule, based upon the Celtic seasonal cycle. And I follow a modern adaptation of Roman polytheism. This arrangement if a work in progress, and I am still ironing out the kinks, but it seems to be working for everyone involved.

I tend to be wary of people with overly optimistic or romantic views of reality. Life is not all love and happiness, and the world does not exist to comfort your emotional wounds. I believe it to be unfortunate that so many people today are so caught up in their own self-pity and who is to blame for it that they neglect to actually come up with solutions to their problems, be they material or magical. It's nice to have people to help and support you, and it's good to do so for others, but it's a liability to everybody to expect everyone to rescue you every time you mess up.

Favorite Books
I like science fiction. Other than that, I usually read non-fiction. I'm always trying to catch up on history, psychology, sociology, and politics. Sounds exciting, huh? And, of course, I read a lot on religion and the occult. In case you haven't noticed, I rather enjoy Phil Hine.
Beliefs / Practices
Occultist, Pagan, Other Spirituality
Hobbies
Religion, magic, and the occult. I am particularly interested in Chaos Magic and Qabalistic Ceremonial Magic. I am attracted to the tarot and other forms of divination. I am also interested in sigil magic and servitor creation and programming. I have little interest in mysticism. I prefer to deal with situations that require results and techniques that produce them.
Heroes
Phil Hine, Alester Crowley, Pete Carroll, Israel Regardie, Donald Michael Kraig
Likes
Thunderstorms, redheads, and other destructive forces. Creativity and an ability to analyze without letting emotions cloud the conclusion. Pizza. Cats. Arguing (and winning) . Camping. People who use proper grammar. Irony. Things unusual and mysterious. Trivia and little known or apparently useless information. Anything interesting. Beautiful women.
Dislikes
Fluff Bunnies and Hippies. People who expect someone else to take care of all of their problems and mistakes (unless they're younger than six) . Michael Moore, conspiracy theorists, and those who take them seriously. Anyone who seeks justice for the burning of Wiccans at Salem or still gives credence to Margaret Murray's books. Netspeak. People who talk a lot without saying anything. People who announce their extreme tolerance of diversity to the world while reviling anyone who disagrees with them in any way. June Bugs and Cicadae.

Magical Ethics

I've heard and read many discussions on the ethics of magic, but ironically I've never encountered the Ring of Gyges in those discussions. It has occurred to me that virtually all quandaries regarding the ethics of a magical action can be reduced to the problem put forth in Plato's story: is it okay top do something if you can't be seen doing it? This is the hallmark of magical action -- that others don't know that you're doing it. All the arguments about karma and what the gods will allow you t… Continue

Building an Altar

My newest essay is now up on the Witches' Voice. It covers basic considerations for anyone who may wish to build his or her own altar. Please give it a read if you are so inclined, and by all means let me know what you think -- I always love any kind of feedback.

Pagan Space Blog

I don't blog all that much. Most of what I want to say on the pagan-o-sphere gets said on the message boards here at Pagan Space, or on my website. I do have a blog on the MySpace, and I post there occasionally, which makes it less likely that I'll post on Pagan Space, since I have an RSS feed on my profile. Indeed, that's why I still use the MySpace blog: It's easy to log on to and serves as a central location that I can post on my other networ… Continue

Oh, I do understand about housework. I never seem to get too far ahead. At least it's a change from school. I always liked break because I could catch up on my for-pleasure reading

So, are you on break for the Summer?
