I come originally from an industrial town in the north west of England but always seemed to gravitate to the one small area of countryside near where I lived. A very early memory I have is of leaving a small gift of sweets (candy) as an offering near to a tree and having no idea why, other than it seemed the right thing to do. Many (many!) years later I began to read about paganism and found I could put a name to my beliefs. I found myself heavily drawn to Heathenism/Northern Tradition and felt I'd 'come home'.
For me, being Heathen (specifically an Anglo Saxon path) and my being English, I find my beliefs, cultural identity, history etc are interwoven as one. I am incredibly partiotic and for some reason in my own country this is frowned upon, which I think is a tragedy in the making. Although incredibly patriotic I state this: I am pro- me but NEVER anti- anyone else and believe all cultures have something to offer.
Favorite Books
'The Poetic Eddas', 'The Prose Eddas', 'Beowulf', The Hammer of the Gods' by Swain Wodening, 'The Way of Wyrd' by Brian Bates, The Lord of the Rings', Shakespeares, 'Romeo & Juliet'.
Beliefs / Practices
Heathen
Other Beliefs/Practices
Heathenism has been described as, "paganism with homework" and so although I read constantly about all aspects of my faith, I also think its important to add individual flavour, so to speak and so many of my practices are intuitive and 'what feels right'.
I respect all beliefs and in the words of Jean Paul Satre, "I may not believe in what you believe. I may completely disagree. I may even hate what you believe. But I will fight for you to be able to have those beliefs".
Hobbies
Studying ancient European history, specifically the period once known as 'The Dark Ages'.
Art, painting, designing and creating pagan jewellery.
I'm a self confessed book worm and adore dark fantasy and horror books and graphic novels. (Faves being H.P Lovecraft, Clive Barker, J. R. R. Tolkien, Anne Rice, Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Mike Mignola and too many to mention...ask me as I'll gladly talk books with anyone!)
Heroes
J. R. R. Tolkien for keeping and recreating ancient European stories alive in his own mythology.
Those who stand for what they believe in.
On a more personal note, my own mother who unbeknownst to her instilled in me a sense of The Nine Noble Virtues.
Likes
English Real Ale. Three words that sit beautifully next to each other.
Dislikes
Those who subjugate, control or harm others in the name of their faith.
Racism.
Inter pagan bickering/politics. (Aren't we all pagan brothers and sisters?!)
How did you find PaganSpace?
Purely by accident as with most things online!
I'd like to think it was the Gods but knowing me? Nah probably the above!!
