About Me:

Name's Dave. I may also go by my chosen Viking name of Haldor Vestr. I'm a second year at Beloit College and part of the campus Pagan Fellowship. I'm our group's resident Ásatrú. I found Ásatrú three or four years back. I tested it out early on in high school, began following/practicing Ásatrú Junior year, and officially declared myself an Ásatrúar Senior year. With regards to Ásatrú, I believe that no matter where you come from, no matter who you're descended from, anyone (and I mean anyone) can follow the faith of the Æsir/Vanir if they so choose.

Other Beliefs/Practices

I largely gear towards the Æsir and Vanir, but I also will sometimes recognize a few Greek gods/goddesses. (Might stem from being a huge fan of the God of War games.) Ásatrú might not have a heavy focus on magic/energy/divination etc., but I do have a wand and a pendulum, and I do rune divination, so I bring a bit more magic into my practice namely because it's a new thing to me and I've always been intrigued by it and decided to get involved in it.
My take on Ásatrú is that I don't see it as a warrior's faith, but rather more of a universalist religion where anyone is welcome to join us in frith. The Æsir and Vanir are our friends, teachers, examples to remind us of our own humanity through their actions. I'd rather be friend than slave to the gods, which is why I chose this, the path to Asgard.

Hobbies

Reading, writing, gaming (when I have the time), watching movies, daydreaming, learning languages, and studying the Runes.

Heroes

Barack Obama, KISS, Warren Zevon, my family, my ancestors, Odin, Thor, Balder, Freya, Bragi, and Freyr of the Nordic pantheon, and Zeus, Athena, and Dionysius of the Greek pantheon.

Likes

The fact that the gods are not our rulers.
People who can listen (especially if I start rolling).
Non-judgemental types who want to know more.
Anyone with a sense of humor.

Dislikes

Anyone who uses religion, especially pagan religions, as a shield for racist beliefs and practices.
People who turn their brains off because life's too hard.
People who stereotype pagans or write us off because we're pagan.
