I am trying to find people who want to help fund a project that has been my life's ambition. Since I was a child, I have worked to heal the rift between man and nature. My first protests were against the war in Indochina. My sister and I would leaflet on street corners here in Green Bay, Wisconsin when we were both in grade school.
Moving to Denver, we joined hundreds of others in protest against nukes, which were allowed despite our opposition in 1976. All the problems we foretold have come to pass. The site we had hoped to block is now the largest Superfund site in the US.
I have continued to pursue environmental activism and education as my passion, working for Citizens for a Better Environment, College settlement Camps of Philadelphia (as an environmental counselor for inner city youth), the City of Green Bay, (as "Nature Guy") amongst other efforts.
In 1987, I rode my bicycle around all five Great Lakes, riding over 4,200 miles (7,000Km) I used many dozens of media contacts, newspaper, radio and television interviews to reach an audience of over five million people. My message was simple, live lightly on the earth. I gave examples like carpooling, biking, buying local, organic, water and energy conservation, reducing waste before turning to recycling, Waste reduction techniques, etc.
Four years ago my wife and I started a not-for-profit organization called ECO-Tours of Wisconsin. So far we have planted over fifteen-thousand trees across Northeast Wisconsin, enough to reforest over fifty acres! (over 20 Ha) We are poised to purchase a fifty-five acres, a century farm that was partially mined for gravel. We will restore forest on most of the acreage, but will keep a portion for a subscription farm, retreat center, and environmental education center based on sustainability.
