www.geminimoon.net"/> I acknowledge that the Divine energy is in all Life; in the magnitude of creatures that dwell on our lands, seas and skies; in the boulders of the hill, in the trees of the forest, in the herbs in my garden, in myself, and also in energy that is embedded in the inanimate object as with my car and my computer. The physical and the spiritual are profoundly entwined, not separate; I recognize that everything with a physical body has a spiritual body also. I attune myself to the elements as they reside within me; Earth is my physical body, Air is my intellect, Fire is my will, Water my emotions, and Spirit is my inner self, the force that binds all together.

My thinking is that because its only the vulva thats emphasised that it might be a compromise. You know the way Mary is the ark of the new covenant cos Jesus is the ark of the covenant incarnate? The medieval church venerated the literal body part that jesus passed through to come into the world. The () symbol is in art all over europe cos of the association. Maybe that sheela image of the vulva, vulgar to modern society and so taken to be a throwback to paganism, is a native expression of the cult of mary. It probably took root here in the native style of art as a result of our goddess/protector of the tribe so it has some links but being on monasteries and on Irish monasteries around europe puts it in christian time.
Sorry if thats kind of waffle, its good to meet someone with an interest in the sheelas. Theyre so obscure.
Christian art symbollic of a continuation of a native mother goddess cult or pre christian deity representative of the goddess religion?

Although we have divorced, I am still very good friends with him. He has taught me so much about the goddesses and gods of ancient Greece as well as myths and legends and alittle about old customs and uses of herbs which has assisted me in my herbal medicine. The only thing that disappointed me was that I never got to visit Greece. Maybe one day!
Blessings!
